New Delhi: The Defence Ministry has given its consent for bringing the Armed Forces within the ambit of the Whistleblower's Bill under consideration of the Government.

"Yes, it is correct that the Defence Ministry has agreed to put the Army and the other two services under the purview of the bill," Army sources said here tonight when asked about the Defence Ministry's stand on the issue.

A Parliamentary committee had recently recommended bringing the Armed Forces and security and intelligence agencies under the purview of the Public Interest Disclosure and Protection to Persons Making the Disclosures Bill, 2010, commonly known as the Whistleblower's Bill

The bill seeks to establish a mechanism to receive complaints regarding allegations of corruption or wilful misuse of power. It was introduced in the Lok Sabha in August, 2010.

"No organisation of the government should be left out from public scrutiny and accountability provided for in the bill," Jayanthi Natarajan had said after submitting the panel report when she was the chairperson of the Committee.

The Personnel Ministry is considering the recommendations of the Committee.
