Now, Samudra literally means sea,ocean or any huge water body.

There was a King who took the title "Samudra" to signify the extent of his conquests.

You also know that Indians have always considered rivers and water bodies to feminine in nature(only one or two rivers have been given masculine names).

So Samudra is a nice name for a girl,too.
