I once came across an old copy of the Air Forces Monthly magazine, the details in the attrition section made some interesting readings. Apparently in the late 80s the roof of a hangar collapsed on an IAF base destroying some half dozen Mirage-2000s of No 7 squadron while several others were reportedly damaged. At the time sabotage wasn't ruled out either. In my subsequent discussions with some Indian members elsewhere, they were adamant that no such mishap ever took place since it wasn't supposedly reported in the Indian media further more such an incident/loss would be impossible to cover up by the Government. However in due course news relating to this matter have been cropping up through various sources, some merely saying the aircraft were damaged while others reporting as destroyed in various figures. In any case it's obvious this accident sabotage or otherwise did materialise. Perhaps some Indian members with IAF knowledge could shed some light on this otherwise relatively little known incident.

NEW DELHI — The ceiling of a hangar collapsed last week at an air base at Gwalior, 170 miles southeast of New Delhi, damaging eight Indian air force Mirage 2000 combat jets, it was reported Thursday.

Two of the French-built planes, purchased in 1985, were damaged beyond repair and six others suffered extensive damage, according to Defense Ministry sources quoted by the Indian Express. The cost was estimated at $175 million. Defense Ministry spokesman T.G. Nallamuthu confirmed the accident but insisted the damage to the jets was minor.

Yep! Partly correct. There was a hangar roof collapse at Gwalior in 1989 where the Tigers are based. But the report that 'two of the French-built planes, purchased in 1985, were damaged beyond repair and six others suffered extensive damage', is totally false! As far as I can recollect, only one Mirage was damaged beyond repair and another slightly damaged.

How could 8 aircraft be affected when only three can fit into that hangar which collapsed?

can 1 hangar accomadate 8 fighter's , iv seen IAF hangers n photographs they are quite small..??
BTW iv read about this incident somewhere but , i don't think the damage was as huge as reported ...

Albeit what i read was that the aircraft belonged to the Battle Axe squadron, none the less, i can assure you hangars can accommodate a lot more than just three aircraft.

Nothing in this thread to rock my boat ; Just that the double standards seen by Mods can make his brethren make the thread content and the article on which it is based to be syntactically different, yet when we do the same, the thread is deleted with immediate effect.

But Musey boy highlights most of his posts in Red, Blue and Green all the time. His point is of readability, and i highlight to do the same, make it more readable.

So what your brethren are allowed to do to boost their egos are changing title threads, while we intersperse emoticons between threads, and the content is deleted toot sweet.

If this is your stand, then i have no issues on following the same. Thanx for your clarification though.

I suggest you all sit together and formulate a checklist on what consists of a non-malicious intent, and highlighting in what fashion makes it malicious and what makes a post summarizable. In short, if i wanted a TLDR of the article for the general readers, point out the ways in which an article is to be presented.

Percepton - the reason so many of you guys are on here is because this is a fair forum - if you try one of the indian forums - you can judge for yourself. This is PDF and the mods are Pakistani. They will not allow the p*ss to be taken out of our nation - thats common sense. I suggest you have a good look at your options and if you feel the mods have a serious issue then leave to where you feel its fairer. We are not going to change the forum to passify and sooth your requirements.
