Israel’s state-run IAI said it signed a contract with India worth over $1.6 billion.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has signed a pact with the Army for developing a medium-range surface to air missile (MRSAM) which will be capable of shooting down ballistic missiles and aircraft.

“The MoU heralds the commencement of development of MRSAM system in the configuration as required by the Army,” a senior Army official said.

He said the missile will be produced by the DRDO in collaboration with the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The missile will be capable of engaging multiple aerial targets at a range of more than 50 kms.

In April, Israel’s state-run IAI had said it signed a contract with India worth over $1.6 billion for providing the missile to the Army.

“The MRSAM system will be capable of shooting down enemy ballistic missiles, aircraft, helicopters, drones, surveillance aircraft and AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control Systems) aircraft,” the official said on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

He said procurement of the MRSAM will mark a paradigm shift in the Army’s strike capability.

The Army has been pressing the government for the MRSAM to enhance its strike capability.

MRSAM’s current version is operational with the Indian Air Force and Navy.

Would these act as battlefield quick reaction sams?
Would this blunt their tactical nuclear weapons program?

. . .
i think so!! it is been planned to use againts tactical battle filed missiles!!

I was wondering if we destroyed tactical nuke with range of 70Km some 50Km away who will be effected more with that blast the one who fire tactical nuke bcz it will be just around 20Km away that missile was destroyed so the impact of tactical nuke should be more on forces 20 km away then the one standing 50 km away and advancing .

Nuclear bomb will detonate in between upon interception the ballistic missiles which carries the warhead. The February may pollute the entire area, but will not detonate.

I dont think there would be a detonation, coz the trigger mechanism may be destroyed. But the radioactive material will be spread across a wide region, on their own soil that is.

. . . . . . .
pdv is opertional?

No info about it. (or anythin related to bmd btw)

Also I guess they need to complete the missile range instrumentation vessel, floating test range & testing range in A&N islands to start with developing AD- I/II
