JODHPUR: For the first time, an indigenously developed anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) has been successfully test-fired from a helicopter platform.
The anti-tank guided missile 'HeliNa', which is a helicopter-launched version of Nag, has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Three 'HeliNa' missiles were fired during the guided flight trials at Chandan firing range in Jaisalmer.

How does it work? Here.....

Nag is a third generation 'Fire-and-Forget' anti-tank missile which is developed by the DRDO. The missile has a top attack capability. The HELINA version will use a 'lock-on after launch' system extending it's range to 7 kms. In this scenario, the missile is launched in the general direction of the target. As it approaches the target, images of the area ahead are sent back to the operator who will be able to identify enemy tanks. The command to lock on to a tank is then passed onto the seeker through an uplink mid-flight. After that, the missile homes in onto the target and destroys it.
