NEW DELHI, May 24 (APP): The Ghaziabad Police have claimed to have busted a gang of auto-lifters headed by Lt Colonel MP Singh, who retired from the Indian Army 18 months ago, but the police said that he was running the gang for about one decade.
A resident of an upcoming posh residential colony on Meerut bypass falling under Jani police station, Singh escaped arrest. A police sub-inspector had been suspended for dereliction of duties. Only one person has been arrested while his three accomplices, including the retired Army officer, are at large.
The police claimed to have recovered 11 luxury cars, including Verna, Honda City Tata Safari and 1-10 along with fake documents from their possession. On a tip-off by an informer, who became the victim of buying a stolen car from them, one auto-lifter was arrested and the gang was busted.
The police further claimed that Nagad Narayan, alias Ram Singh, a resident of Afaur Tola in Bihar, was also arrested. He has confessed that he used to prepare forged documents of the stolen vehicles from the RTO office at Tata Nagar where the office work was still manual which enabled them to temper papers easily.
The third accomplice, Raj Kumar, alias Munna, a resident of Marchhiya in Bihar, used to transport stolen vehicles to the RTO office and other destinations where customers needed them for their further usages.
The fourth accomplice, Sanjay, alias Ravi Shankar,. a resident of Kankar Bagh, Patna, Bihar, used to steal cars and hand them over to the next link from where they used to forge documents and at the final stage Col Mp Singh used to hunt customers to the cars.
Some customers who came to know that they had been cheated by being sold stolen cars surrendered their vehicles to the police voluntarily. Sub-Inspector Pankaj Verma, who was found at Lt Col MP Singhs residence at the time of raids, was suspended. The hunt to arrest the remaining three criminals is on and Nagar Narayan has been sent to jail, said SSP Ghaziabad at a press conference.
