Indian Air Force lost 30 fighter aircraft, 10 choppers in three years
PTI Dec 12, 2011, 04.54pm IST

NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force (IAF) has lost a total 30 fighter aircraft and 10 helicopters in crashes in last three years which left 26 defence personnel including 13 pilots dead, government told the Lok Sabha today.

In written reply to a question on incidents of air crashes in IAF, Defence Minister A K Antony said, "During the last three years, from 2008-09 to 2010-11, 30 fighter aircraft and 10 helicopters of Indian Air Force (IAF) have crashed."

Antony informed the House that these crashes include 16 fighter aircraft of the MiG-21 series.

"26 defence personnel including 13 pilots have lost their lives (in these crashes). In addition six civilians have also lost their lives," he said.

Underlining that all aircraft accidents in IAF are thoroughly investigated by a Court of Inquiry (Col) to ascertain their cause, he said, "Main causes for the above accidents were Human Error (HE) and Technical Defect (TD)."

Antony said a multi-disciplined study team has been formed by the IAF to review the reasons for such crashes.

Denying that inexperience of pilots is one of the major reasons for these accidents, Antony said steps have been taken by government to train pilots to prevent accidents due to human error.

Some of the measures to improve training of pilots include use of simulators to practise procedures and emergency actions, focused and realistic training with additional emphasis on the critical aspects of mission, introduction of Crew Resource Management and Operational Risk Management.

On phasing out the MiG-21 aircraft, he said, "Decision to phase out aircraft is taken on various factors including their residual life and operational considerations and is reviewed by the government from time to time. This is a continuous process."

So what's the point of your thread? China probably has had many more accidents but due to press, internet and individual censorship and controls, no info comes out of the Han Dynasty! The day you guys open up to the world, you'd be surprised at the truth. The CPC only publishes what it wants you and the world to know. :azn:

Long live Indian democracy!

The Indian Defence Minister replies to a question in the Indian Parliament and gives out the state of accidents of Indian aircraft over the last few years and remedial actions undertaken. The reply is based on data supplied by the Indian Air Force. This is not confidential information and is already available in the public domain. So far so good, right? One can assume that this is the normal functioning of a parliamentary democracy in progress, right?

Now here comes the kicker. A Chinese kid from Beijing stumbles on to this news article during his daily cyber hunt for anti Indian titbits and morsels and proudly posts it on a Pakistani Defence Forum. Maybe we should request the eager young man to come up with similar disclosures on the state of accidents in China? We can but where will he get the information from? There are no disclosures in China except those that the Party decides to be in China's best interests. For that matter, the Chinese defence minister does not answer to questions from representatives of the people. He answers only to his party bosses and those answers are never for public consumption.

Of what use this information is to our young friend from Beijing? Unless he is looking for a job in the Indian Air Force Flight Safety Department or unless he is preparing for a doctoral dissertation on the subject of flight safety in foreign air forces? Surely, the object of this thread is not to earn cheap back slaps from like minded immature juveniles? No, that can't be the case. That would be too bad.

BTW ABU - if you dont mind, other than your anti -India vitriol - I find something else quite funny ... to keep your tough guy image and anti American rants going here everyday -- you don't show on your flag that you are nestled in the bosom of America, studying is Washington DC... for all the anti American hate , your integrity says papa America please let me in... what gives?

Chinese are not used to hearing about crashes much... their military has no issues per their Borg.... so naturally they get astonished to hear about accidents in large military based countries.. the only time a Chinese aircraft crashes is when they fly to air shows in some different country . all sabotaged to put mother chini image down..

Funny how Indians think that a plane crashing in China wouldn't attract crowd of gawkers and people taking pictures/posting to social media. China is a pretty densely populated country. There are now lots of internet users and people with smartphones about nowadays.

Here's a Chinese drone crash this August.

Honestly maybe you guy just suck at maintenance. Not impossible considering the state of the Indian Navy. If you still think this is a fake, see the new evidence. We have the name of the US officer and where he is serving.

China has our share of crashes,we never denied it.but this thread is not about Chinese jet crashes.and China makes our own jets,if they crashed,we can learn and do a better job next time,we can economically mass produce many of them.Indians buy weapons from other countries, when Indian jets crashed, they have to use their very limited hard won foreign reserve to buy new ones.
