The one party system is neither better nor worse than the multi-party system. There is no good or bad system, only suitable or unsuitable.
Ok, Zen master.. we could wax philosophical about this and debate all day but the results tell us 2 somewhat different stories.
China has so far managed to achieve more and done better on a lot more metrics than India. Primarily, I would argue, on the back of it's zero tolerance no nonsense approach to nation building, aided in no small part to their (as I said earlier) cultural homogeneity. The Uighurs are just about the only ethnic/religious group where there has been conflict, and their "uprisings" or whatever have been dealt with sternly and effectively.
In India, it is almost anarchic by comparison.. again, "too many moving parts" when the solution is to go solid state.
Honestly, it is a bit beyond me to come up with a solution but the problem is easy to see.
Basically, cultural diversity is great but only up to the point till it starts to interfere with the 'greater good' of things.. the same cultural diversity is also fuel for our slimy politicians to achieve their own selfish narrow minded and myopic goals of staying in power so they can exploit it for personal gain.
Can you even imagine openly antagonistic Islamist (or Hindutva for that matter), political parties thriving in China ? .. In India it is not just politics, there are major religious, caste and class divisions, all politicized all the time.
Ours sure needs fixing.. Modi and the new BJP is a first step and they're pretty good given the hand they've been dealt. Let's see..A country needs different systems in different environments and different time nodes.
We need to dynamically understand and observe the pace of history. If we rigidly label a system as "good" or "bad", we will inevitably fail.
