'India way ahead in creating minimum credible nuke deterrence' - Indian Express

India is undertaking a "huge amount of work" toward creating a minimum credible nuclear deterrence and "way ahead" in what it needs to do on this front, a key official said here today.

"There is a huge amount of work that's going on toward creating our minimum credible deterrence," Commander-in-Chief of Strategic Forces Command (SFC) Air Marshal K J Mathews said on the occasion of the golden jubilee celebration of HF-24 (Marut), India's first indigenous combat aircraft which made its maiden flight on June 17, 1961.

"We are way up and ahead on what we need to do (in the creation of minimum credible nuclear deterrence)," he added.

He said SFC is responsible for the country's nuclear arsenal, preparation as well as delivery. The tri-service command directly reports to the Prime Minister.

. . .
60 slbm's
100 Agni 1/2's
100 Agni 3/5 Mirv's
100 Prithvi's
40 Rafale/FGFA
can be a deadly combo.

Yes and also Brahmos - frigate launched
Land and air version
Shaurya --with Increased range Land based
Shaurya - on our subs
MKI 's with refuelers for long range strategic strikes

we should diversify our delivery systems as much as possible ..

Wish we could add a strategic bomber to the mix as well , we should begin indigenous development on a fifth gen bomber ....

.
We already have 1000+ Prithvi's
The recent tested Prithvi that has capacity to deceive ABM effectively.

The strategic bomber should be stealthy or else better to go for Heavy stealth fighters.
I want anti sub Brahmos. The ones i mentioned will be possible in next 10 years and the others will take more time to be inducted.

.
any idea what is the status of SFC's RFI for 40 nuclear strike fighters? Or re they waiting for outcome of MMRCA?

.
Can anyone throw some light on the total number of various Missiles (Ballistic, Cruise, ABM, etc.) India has right now and operational and how much will be added in future. or Is this Secret ? ;)

.
rather than having 1 authority to manage nukes why not just create a land force to operate SRBM/MRBM/IRBM's? and since the Navy is getting a nuclear sub give them a separate command India should have a force like the Chinese second artillery corps or the Russian strategic rocket forces having the PM decide when to "Push the button" may not be as fast to react to a nuclear attack as having a high ranked military commander in charge of a land or naval command

Reduce the land based and air based component.
Ultimate goal should be 6 SSBNs 3 always on patrol, with 16 mirved missiles each.[min of 3 mirved warheads assuming thats 150 warheads always ready for a second strike on patrol]other than this a token force of 20 air based bomb carriers can be kept only for pakistan specific targets.
A 50 - 75 Long ranged rail mobile China specific land based missiles.
Plus 50 short and medium ranged pak specific missiles.

Thats a 96 slbms[mirved]
100-125 Land based missiles.
And 25 odd air carried bombs.

Should be more than enough .

No u r wrong, i agree to use land based missiles only in case of emergency and that too those should be placed in remote areas like andaman.
We need air delivery systems. That is safest way than missiles. Ill explain how if u want. SLBM is like a last hope .
SRBM-Sehwag-We will have adverse effect if it fails.
IRBM-Gambhir-Effective way but delivery systems should be effective.
Rafale-Sachin-It can be used multiple times. Safest way.
ICBM-Yuvraj-Long range strike.
SLBM-Dhoni-Dhoni also Yuvi can take care if top order fails.

.
Our 'Minimum Credible Deterrence' will be based on

Thermonuclear weapons
SLBM from nuclear submarines(K-4 and Agni-VI)
MIRV ICBM (Agni-V and VI)
Quasi ballistic missile (Shaurya and K-15)
