Aren’t most people in here, including yourself anonymous? I am equally critical of racism within India (including casteism) as I am of transnational racism.I do wonder why you ask this question anonymously? I am assuming you’re Indian yourself, and wonder if you have asked your own countrymen why they find other Indians inferior, since you still have a very unhealthy caste system going on there….?!
To try not to derail the topic further, this is a good opportunity for us to bring Sri Lanka back to the fold. We like Sri Lanka. It’s a country with a lot of potential - ranging from tourism to renewable energy.
People underestimate the value of cultural synergies and regional proximity. Unless there are major unresolved grievances — It’s like a rubber band - forcing countries to come together no matter how much effort outside forces expend - attempting to scuttle such a prospect.
Chinese at the end of day, will never be able to relate with Sri Lankans at a personal level. And with the reputation they have (China as a country) for being somewhat opportunist and exploitative, it becomes even more difficult.
People to people contact between India and Sri Lanka is immense. Even international agencies (UN, World Bank etc) while maintaining offices in Sri Lanka, coordinate/drive a lot of activities there through their regional headquarters in India.
Similarly - in the case of Pakistan, no matter how much they try — an ordinary Pakistani can never relate with China beyond appreciating state level cooperation. Few might even go there for education — but they will never understand them beyond a point.
