The Indian navy has offered to train Sri Lankan Navy officers, the President’s office said today. The offer was made when the Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy Admiral D.K. Joshi called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President’s Office this morning.

During the meeting, the President, Admiral Joshi and the two delegations discussed several maritime topics of particular significance in the Indian Ocean region.

At the outset, Admiral Joshi informed President Rajapaksa that the Indian Navy will be offering training to Sri Lankan Navy officers to follow the four-year Bachelor of Technology course that is currently offered to Indian Navy officials.

He stated that while there is a great demand from many countries to enroll their officers for this course, the priority is being given to Sri Lanka.

Among the other topics discussed was the problem of combating piracy in the Indian Ocean towards which “the Sri Lanka Navy has made a big contribution,” Admiral Joshi said. He further stated that although incidents of piracy have seen a decline in recent years, Sri Lanka and India must continue to be vigilant.

“All our efforts have to continue,” he added. Both Admiral Joshi and Sri Lankan Navy Commander Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage also informed the President that the two navies have always cooperated well in dealing with the problems faced by the fishermen of both countries. There has “never been a misunderstanding between the navies,” Vice Admiral Colombage said.

Admiral Joshi, who arrived in Sri Lanka earlier this week to attend the Galle Dialogue 2013 Maritime Conference, has had the opportunity to travel around the country to several major maritime locations including Trincomalee, Mannar, the Jaffna Peninsula, Galle and Hambantota.

The High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka Y.K. Sinha, the Defense Adviser at the Indian High Commission Captain Sumeet Kapoor and several other representatives from the Indian Navy accompanied Admiral Joshi. Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage and Officer-in-Attendance Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando were also present at the meeting.

Are we going to train them how to effectively apprehend Indian fishermen.?

Congress mind as we'll find a new country to be exiled in because after Modi's tenure there are going to be so many political parties in India that these 2 major parties BJP and Congress are going to be deluted due to misconception among free thinkers.

No sir, I hated modi for more than 9 years until I couldn't take the incompitancy of congress regarding some key issues from social to security of the people. We are still reading same articles, same news, same old a$$ politicians clinging on to realm refusing to step aside. I guess that's what make us Indians, because we refuse to look beyond the kingdom come mentality.

Dear Tamils,

Our hearts weep for Rohingya Muslims but not for our own people. We are training the Sinhala backstabbers so that they can kill you in cold blood to satisfy their thirst of hatred against you.

.
Seriously Wtf Is wrong with foreign ministry and indian navy?

We tought srilankans to play cricket and they beat us in the world Cup. Guess we didn't learn anything from history!

Fisherman dispute -Tamil Nadu do not have a proper fisheries policy with respect to the type of boats used for deep sea fishing, type of nets to be used( size in cm), lacking GPS,taking advantage of rich fish resources of neighbouring country-Do not know who is the fisheries minister in Tamil Nadu-this nut need to go for some refresher course ,so that fisherman in Tamil Nadu can be better regulated.

Indian navy should always maintain good relations with Sri Lanka so that opportunity seeking and lustful powers are not allowed to disturb the peace in the Indian ocean.Attempts have been made by an Asian power to buy an island south off Kerala-disturbing the democratic process and disturbing the airport tender and construction in that island nation-small country leaders can bought when billions of dollars are dangled before them.USED STRATEGIC MINDSET TO ANALYSE PROBLEMS

.
India first need to train their incompetent Navy before training others.

To be honest, Sri Lankan navy should be training the Indian navy, not the other way around.
Our navy is competent enough to kill slave bot navy. Hahahahahhaa
