India to support Sri Lanka in UN

My room mate in college is Tamilian and he hates Lankans.
I am from Chennai...I dont hate Lankan's...They are just like anybody else..(Tamils from India should be Indian first and SL Tamils from SL are SL first).....All this Tamil nationalism is for politics..you and I are not politicians. LTTE was a terrorist organization,,they were dealt accordingly .... I am happy that the indian forces on the border are doing the same.

Vise versa.. I dont think there is any hatred by Non Tamil Lankans towards Tamils in India on personal level.. It's the political opportunists on both sides that drive this hate campaign and their relentless propaganda for political survival.. I agree with you the LTTE totally destroyed a whole generation of Tamils in the island over 30 years, That's way more catastrophic than what happened in the last few months of the conflict when both sides allegedly committed atrocities.. Very few people talk about it

Sri Lankans from all backgrounds atleast have space to breath now.. To introspect to their past and reconcile their future.. Instability, fear and war doesn't allow that space.. So it's best to give them that space without interfering

Totally agree with you.

Because the FM already said report is good and not biased while it is not..and accepted the report.

Machun what you say is contradictory.. I gave you the source for the official govt stand on the first resolution and to the report of the UNHRC Gen Sec.. What was officially responded to the UNHRC by the GOSL.. What matters is that not a personal opinion of a politician.. Which by the way i doubt was said anyway.. Pls provide a link

yes, but it has to be under universal jurisdiction

How can it be under universal jurisdiction when no such thing is demanded in the final resolution.. The final say is with the Judiciary of Sri Lanka, It's Supreme court.. Again no foreign judges are even mentioned only lawyers

I have to take your words. But i hardly trust RW.

Neither do i bro.. But i dont go on personal dislikes or suspicions but on facts presented

What some of you seem to ignore is the dire straits the country was regarding this UNHRC report if the stance was'nt changed and the MR government was still there.. Just consider the country was damn lucky

Lucky on what basis? We still are in the same position as of before. IMHO we are in deep trouble than last time. When there was MR, it was only the threat of the foreign investigation. But now we have a local investigation superintended by the same old foreign counterparts. Only the nameplate has changed. But same old content.

Indeed. Sri Lankan Tamils should be Sri Lankan first and then Tamils. Totally agree with you.

Ask any Tamilian. They will give you answer on what basis.

Anyway, Sri Lanka is insignificant contributor to our economy, we can very well do without them.

Yeah, India should put economic sanctions on Sri Lanka. By then we can get rid of Indian cars, bikes, three wheelers and other sub par products of India which by now have clogged Sri Lanka.

.
India should put economic saanction on Sri Lanka. Enough said :coffee:

I think you are in a serious delusion with the capacity of India in doing such things...India can not and should not do anything in a small land locked nation like Nepal and how can you even overestimate such stuff wrt Sri Lanka?

This is where Mangala S talked about the report.
UN Report Is Well-Balanced And Unbiased: FM Mangala Samaraweera | Colombo Telegraph
Not a word against the report. that is not a single politician that is the FM. Remember he was the person who met Solheim few months ago. In report UN specifically mentions universal jurisdiction and no word against it from SL side. I dont like to give more infor on this on this forum. The point is SLG did not respond to the UN report on behalf of SL...and didnt even provide the Paranagama report countering its claims. Paranagama report is much more acceptable and professional than UN report

Again.. What the FM says in his personal capacity does not matter.. What matters is the official statement of the government of the republic of Sri Lanka.. That was clearly articulated and presented to the UNHRC, The UN and the world.. And which i clearly posted here for your reference.. They work on that not personal utterances on random fora

A foreign minister is there to talk on behalf of the government and the country, not to say his random utterances. There is a weight to what he says in a UN forum. he is not discussing over his dinner with friends. If you have found a single source that shows where the SLG has expressed anything that counters what Mangala said, please show me.

And as far as I know the essence of the old one is the same in the now accepted one.

FM accepted the report because well whats the use of denying it? It will only make things harder and will only end up in going in circles.
A South African style truth commission and compensation for victims is the right way to go. Its highly unlikely that anyone would be punished and its probably the best way of transitional justice to SL

U.N. rights boss urges Sri Lanka to probe secret jails, missing people| Reuters

GENEVA(Reuters) - Sri Lanka must investigate reports of secret places of detention and set up a "credible and independent" body to clarify the fate of people missing since the long war that ended in 2009, the United Nations said on Wednesday.
Some Tamils allege that the military maintains detention centers and tortures former Tamil rebels who surrendered after defeat. The military rejects the charge. Tamils who went missing in the war's final phase are alleged to range from many thousands to a few hundred.
"Reports have continued to suggest the existence of secret and unacknowledged places of detention. These require urgent investigation," Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, said in a speech.
The presidential commission to investigate missing persons should be "disbanded and its pending cases transferred to a credible and independent institution", he said.

There are no "secret jails" in SL. They may have existed during war but not anymore. Its impossible to hide if they exsist

Even if the report is extremely biased against SL and contain incorrect things....then any UN agency can come up with whatever they think and our gov is going to accept it without defending the country?

It will only make things harder and will only end up in going in circles.
It is going in circles. Actually SL have been facing the UN issue since 1983. It is not a result of MR as UNPers like to say. Let it go in circles and we will face it..that is it...UN cannot do anything other than that...Now it not only goes circles it has given UN the right to intervene in SL. Even countries like India which has a worse situation in Kashmir never allow the UN to intervene.

A South African style truth commission and compensation for victims is the right way to go
First SL issue is different from South African style. And what victims? There is a due process in SL where we have already punished soldiers who had done wrong. Actually SL has been tough on these when compared with countries like US. SL need not any other thing.

ts highly unlikely that anyone would be punished

@Saradiel
I said once to talk about something you know and you still talk like a ignorant kid and call others brainless because they don't accept what you say.
The Japanese prosecutor you talk about was member of the Missing Persons Commission of MR
http://www.defence.lk/new.asp?fname...ted_to_Missing_Persons_Commission_20141215_04

At least next time your brain instead of making really stupid statements and calling others stupid. first you tried to lecture us on the UNHRC report without knowing what it even is and now this.
