India to sell BrahMos missile to Vietnam

The BrahMos Aerospace —the Indo-Russian joint venture that has developed the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile — is keen to sell the missile to Vietnam with which India is developing a strong strategic relationship, sources have confirmed.
However, the Indian government’s approval will have to be taken for any such acquisition. Sources also confirmed that Vietnam is already on a list of about 15 “friendly countries” — that was decided by a joint Indo-Russian supervisory council — to whom the BrahMos missile can be sold.
“Informal talks are on but no concrete proposal has been made as yet,” a source who did not want to be identified, told this newspaper. “Any acquisition of the BrahMos missile will be of immense value to Vietnam and will boost its defence preparedness,” sources said.
So far, the BrahMos missile has not been sold to any third country although a few have already evinced interest in acquiring it.
In a move that signalled the importance of strategic ties between India and Vietnam in the wake of increased Chinese military assertion in Asia, defence secretary Shashi Kant Sharma had also recently begun an official visit to Vietnam. India is set to offer naval facilities for training and capacitybuilding to Vietnam.

I think India must modernize it Armed forces (to defend communist aggression) before selling Such state of art weapon to a state which is viewed enemy by Communist china. We can't trust communist state, they can attack.

well you posted it in morning, so i see no bashing yet..anyways i see indian gov pulling out at last moment( as of now).. when the final decision has been made, this news should have come out then. Why do we miss the element of surprise.

This is not a done deal yet. We also need Russia to acquiesce if this deal has to go through. Russia is selling kilo class subs and other hardware to Vietnam but has not made its position known regarding sale of Brahmos to that country. It will be a good move if India sells Brahmos to Vietnam.

I really don't want to sound like war monger. However, I think its time that we take a stand against Chinese. We have to provide our support to countries like Vietnam & Philippines to tackle China. Exactly the way Chinese are doing with Pakistan, Burma & Bangladesh.

Enough is enough, we have taken a soft stand till now but they have not changed its our time to change.

Yap, its not. However, I think we should go with it. Indian armed force have a huge requirement and some day Brahmos will fulfill those. What happens next, production line will be closed as there is no demand? I think the delivery date of Brahmos will be only after couple of years to Vietnam, by then local demands would be fulfilled.

Simply, Russia's weapon is one of the best weapon in the World, it cheaps and Russia jet fighter can overhaul in India also

See I old before that Vietnam will go for Brahmos and they are interested in not less than 10 batteries for their Sea Asset and Coast.

We should give them China did not ask India when they supplied J 10 to Pak, why should we listern to them.
We should also send them 5 squardon of Teja's also.

It will bring back funds for further development

I wouldn't interpret it that way,
For example by implication one can say Russia is encircling China by supplying Vietnam with weapons.
Its more of a commercial thing .

I must add two things here :

1. Call it propaganda or rhetoric but the entire set of south Asian countries countries keep talking of Indian Hegemony although INDIAN soldiers have never set foot across its borders except '71 while China keeps on bullying its entire set of neighbors either covertly or overtly. ( either blocking loans from ADB or World Bank or by direct threatening with military confrontation). Its damaging of undersea optic cables in South China Sea or military posture vis-a-vis Japan. Now who is being hegemonic here ?

2. China has running border disputes with all its countries. No body wants to be their friends. China has always tried to push its neighbors into a corner whenever chance came by. Be it with vietnam when USSr withdrew or with phillipines when US withdrew.
I think they should get a treatment of their own medicine.
