India to have Sudarshan Chakra-like missile soon

According to the Hindu scriptures, Sudarshan Chakra is the ultimate weapon of Lord Vishnu used for the destruction of enemy. The best part is it comes back to its original place after destructing the target.

The myth will now be reality.

In next few years, India will have its own Sudarshan Chakra-like deadly hypersonic potent missile.

BrahMos Aerospace India Ltd (BAIL) is currently working on BrahMos II programme where scientists have taken inspiration from Lord Vishnu’s weapon. Going at a speed of Mach 7, the missile would deliver the warhead, assess the destruction of target, come back and get ready to go again.

Talking to Headlines Today, Dr A Sivathanu Pillai, CEO and MD for BAIL, said, “It is our dream to make the best weapon. Our mythology has given us a lot of inputs. Out of all gods, only one weapon is moving and is ready to go in nanoseconds at the command of mind. It destroys the enemy and comes back, and that is Sudarshan Chakra.”

Dr Pillai, considered to be the father of the world’s fastest supersonic BrahMos cruise missile project, adds, “We have established a lead in supersonic missile. Definitely our country and its scientific community are capable of developing a hypersonic missile which is reusable. With technology changing every day and a sort of information war beginning in the world, there is a possibility of mind operating machines. Hypersonic vehicles with multi-use will reduce the cost putting payload in the orbit. It could deliver the payload at multiple points and it can come back. That is what we have thought of as our own version of Sudarshan Chakra.”

According to Dr Pillai, India will get this hypersonic missile in the next 5-7 years. At present, BAIL is working on the air-to-air missile, which should get ready by the end of 2014.

Dr Pillai’s ultimate dream is to establish a military industry complex which can provide all the weapons in the country. “We could be a self-reliant country in missile technology, but for that we need industry support,” he said.

A missile with advanced loitering capability I guess...

.
all my life i thought missiles get destroyed but it seems hillariuos how can a supersonik missile ofload the merchandise to the client and come back agaon for the second dilevry

looks like the chai-buiscuit organiztion= DODO/DRDO's offiecrs are smoking some realli good stuff

How would they recover a missile that travels at hyper Mach speeds?
Parachute ?

It would certainly lower the cost of the missile if it becomes reusable.
As of now BrahMos is already our most expensive missile and consequently mass production is exquisitely expensive.

In all probability it would be parachute. Sounds like a Hypersonic UAV.

This ability was already stated by Former President A P J Abdul Kalam.

“You should develop a hypersonic version of BrahMos which can be reused... meaning that the missile should be able to deliver its payload and return to base. This will help in maintaining our leadership in this arena,” he said at a function to mark the 10th anniversary of the launch of BrahMos missile.

in one word,Reusable Missile..I'm surprising that you didn't know that DRDO and Brahmos corp is trying to make Reusable Missiles for future use....here is another one from DRDO..

DRDO plans to build reusable missiles

NEW DELHI: After the successful launch of Agni V Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile, India is all set to develop reusable rockets which will combine the technologies of both ballistic and cruise missiles.

As part of plans to develop reusable ballistic missiles, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) will test indigenously developed scram jet engine next year, DRDO chief V K Saraswat said in a TV interview.

"We have propulsion technology, re-entry technologies, we have the technology which can take a re-entry system which will deliver a payload and have yet another re-entry system which will bring the missile back when it re-enters the atmosphere on its return journey," he said.

"We have demonstrated the performance of a scram jet engine operating at Mach six speed (six times the speed of sound)," he said. On the range of Agni V missile, which was successfully test-fired off the Odisha coast, the DRDO chief said, with moderate modifications, "it can be extended to any range which is of our interest".

this project has started way back, when Abdul Kalam was Chief of DRDO..
it is also reported that they will build a heavy reusable rocket..

I was under the misconception the the Brahmos' power plant was Russian.
Perhaps I am mistaken.

Good aftwer noon sirji ..you are right and it is good to be optimistick but i guess its way too far fetched and there priorities are not right what they should be doing instead

1. keep there mouths shut till the (first flight) has taken place

2. First try to make a more compact and lightweight bhramos with better range and dish owt them in huge numbers to bring the cost down

3. make a sub 1.5 tonne super sonick ALCM with at least 250 mile range and make sure it could be carried on all the indian made fighter jets inclueding LCA/MIG29/M2K & MKI and compact enof so it could fit inside a wepons bay of FGFA

4. speed up Nirbhay missile and its ALCM varient and try making it more compact and light weight

5. make Astraa oprational ASAP and try having it with multi seeker head and make it more compact and lightweight

6. Make Sudarshan LGB more user freindli and compact from its current state

7.try making Nag better with a multi seeker head and increase its range and dish it owt in huge numbers so its more cost effective

this resuable super sonick mumbo jumbo is not worth the effort at least right now

rest its your perception but i dont see any of the above secnarios possiblein near future

. .
Doesn't the description of "Sudarshan Chakra" fit that of every jet fighter.... it flies , delivers the missile/bomb/whatever and comes back to be reloaded again? :what:
well actualli what they are saying is they have perfected the tech & ironed owt the flaws in there super sonick re usable unmanned UCAV which is in works since earli parts of 2002 and many of its techs were & still are teted on different platforms like some on AGNI series , some on LCA & mostli on Bhramos and prithvi series and even that "pragati" but the point is they dont khair jane do

.
A missile with advanced loitering capability I guess...

Loitering capability, no matter how advance, do not mean that it can drop its warhead and come back to get ready to go again :)
So if this is actually ANYTHING, it cant be a missile for sure.

Well, I was talking about the closest possibility. As I didnt believe that claim by the makers. Though they are working on reusable vehicles but its not something that will be available in near future.

Dont take this news seriously, DRDO+Indian defense journalism is a deadly combo..
