What's new

India to grow at 7.8 per cent in 2015-16; surpass China: ADB

Actually I used to think UPA 2 will be the most corrupt party till now. I guess in the next 10 years we'll know that it was Modi's government that was the most corrupt.

Yeah we will see .. But its not the statement to be made .. We have to wait for ten years ..till now this up a 2 most corrupt government..

You'll see it well before that. Modi's re-election prospects itself is beginning to wane. You put the wrong guy on the chair.

Your just speculating.. That's all.. I don't wanna live in dreams.. Let it happen then we will talk... Till now upa 2 is the worst.

What logical alternative was there? Rahul Gandhi? Don't make me laugh....

We will never get a perfect man.. We always look for the best.. And looking at the growth rates.. We are up to the mark till now.... Rahul is just a mistake that's all.

You forget that the Congress did have a viable alternative. RG was never supposed to be PM. He would have a titular role like Sonia and the PM would have been someone else (either Chiddu or Antony- I think Chidambaram's PM ship would have been the true golden era for India). Modi and his exceptional political acumen ensured that he forced congress to a PM candidate in a Presidential style election and gave us RG. Would not have mattered if Modi has performed, but after elections we see his true colors- a weird kind of political animal who doesn't deliver at all.

And this is a good thing? This is a clear subversion of democracy and hardly worked out well under the UPA-1/2, India needs centralised power in the PMO not dual power centres. Policy paralysis would have been a best case scenario with RG and some other PM in place.

Forgive me if I don't get excited at the prospect of the great "Saint" becoming PM of India.

Chidambaram's PM ship would have been the true golden era for India)
Speculation and nothing more. The Congress would still be the Congress i.e. endless welfare schemes, policy paralysis, a dynastic and dysfunctional party and inept.

A tiger doesn't doesn't change its stripes. I am no Modi fanboy, I don't even support the BJP as a whole BUT the Congress are FAR worse and given they have been in power for the vast majority of India's post-colonial history they have stifled India's potential. India is where it is today in spite of the Congress, not because of them. You only have to go back to the first PM to see where the rot began.

I want to see the Congress crumble bit by bit, ours should be the last generation that has to face the prospect of a self-entitled Gandhi potentially leading India.

I can't comment on this, it is still too early to judge Modi as PM, so far it has been quit a mixed bag really, on the whole positive but there is still plenty to be disappointed by in Modi. Modi managed a so-called economic miracle in Gujarat and let's hope he replicates this on a nation-wide level, this is as much as we can hope for, he is certainly not the messiah who will solve all of India's ills as many seem to be expecting.

Politics is about the relevance to history. Why do you think Congress came to this formula? In the 1990s Narasimha Rao (that flawed but superb politican) demolished the Gandhis and took over congress- fair enough. But his legacy proved the problems with our definition of true democracy. It lost the eletions and destroyed Congress, so in an attempt to create a party that was relevant to the Indian society they came to that formula-Gandhis in Titual positions and PMs according to merit. You can't argue with that, they won two elections. Talk to anyone who was working with the Chidambaram and they'll vouch (even those that defected to BJP), they said Chiddu was the best minister they worked under. He took the best of MMS and made a strong political effort build on that. And considering the Ad Hoc work of Modi, it is clear that Chidambara was the PM we needed and deserved. I'm not an elitist and don't think a Harvard Business School MBA qualified you to be the PM who will make you 'best PM'. But then, what has Modi's leadership amounted to anyway? Big guy victimizing the small guy? THIS is the way we move forward?

This formula only works for as long as a large proportion of the electorate remain clueless and effectively worshiping at the church of the Gandhis.

Are you really going to argue that the Gandhis are inherently entitled to rule just because of their family tree?

So what? MMS was said to be an extremely talented economist and technocrat and yet because of this dual-power centre practice the UPA undelivered.

No successful entity can operate like that.

it is clear that Chidambara was the PM we needed and deserved.
A subjective statement, he never stuck his head above the parapet and has hardly been able to demonstrate he deserved that office.

But then, what has Modi's leadership amounted to anyway?
Still far too early to say either way sir.

.
I honestly do not see why India cannot grow at more than 10% growth in the coming years. In fact I will be disappointed in Modi if he fails to achieve that.

India certainly has the potential to do that if only we can unshackle our fears and give wings to our dreams. But we do need Inspirational leadership and a robust structure and system put in place to sustain such a phenomena.

China has already shown its possible. India with its potential can and must do better.

You are imposing your own urban middle class values on to the politics. The idea that congress somehow 'toyed' with org stracture is a weird statement. Even the BJP is like that. Tell me if Gandhi name was so anathema to BJP, why did they take in Maneka Gandhi and her Idiotic son into their fold? She would have never become a minister if she didn't have the Gandhi name. And as for '2 centres'- the congress was never as divided in power centres as BJP is. There is Modi and there is RSS, no matter what other people say, Modi is a complete puppet in their hands. They can make him walk the plank today if they want to.

And your contention that Chidambaram was not one of the front runners is wrong. Clearly there were only 2 people in the fray. Chidu was supported by MMS as his successor and he had managed to hold both Finance and Home Minister positions. ANtony on the other hand had grass roots support and an extremely honest reputation. Not that I don't like honesty, but the nereaucratic type of honesty that Antony showed put me off him.

And dude, stop 'sir-ing' me man. I feel really weird. :)

UPA 2 became corrupt after coming to power. Modi took 1000s of crores from the likes of ADani, Ambani etc. before he came to power. That's the difference.

Again you are speculating.. People voted for him .. Not your so called crores.. And he is performing good in regards of economy.. That's all.
