Why the hell would they buy NASAMS then?

Because we can afford it. The US is ready to sell us.

And maybe we need to study the AIM-120 missiles a bit closer.

India wants multilayer air defence system. AD 1 and AD2 will protect India from icbms then PDV and AAD will protect India from IRBM. Third layer will be S400 which will protect India from planes, drones and Cruise missiles.Then comes LR same and Ex same followed by Akash NG and Akash and QRSAM. We want to put Robust air defence system in place.
