These companies have a annual profit margin more than defence enterprises.I don't think they would let go of that so easily.A cataclysmic global event is required for any radical change to occur.Even the western world will not be able to afford these expensive treatments but for their health insurance. But the costs these insurance companies have to bear means they will go insolvent in no time. This is not sustainable for long run because the population is aging. In turn they jack up the premiums and soon all these treatments will have co-pay and the circle continues. I am for sustainable and cheap alternatives and that means breaking the monopoly of these western companies.

About how India went from an importer of even basic western medicines at record high prices, to now the largest and cheapest supplier of generic drugs in the world, also how the industry was protected by laws to prevent exploitation of patents through practices like ever greening. In the office, cant watch it now.what's the content of the video?
Many countries specially the African countries have been protected by cheaper inventions of life saving drugs of AIDS, Cancer by Cipla, a generic leader of sort in India having presence in all continents of world and drug n formulations making plants in some 19 locations
here in Indonesia both medicine are available ,generic and patent, price is Hugh difference almost 5 times
i always giving preference to patent over generic, may be because of lack of confidence ,trust or knowledge about generic medicine
