India is sourcing spares for Su-30MKI fighter aircraft directly from France and Israel as Russia is facing a shortage in spare parts supply, Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar said in Parliament on Tuesday.

The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for Su-30MKI in Russia is facing shortage as well as problems in sourcing spare parts from Belarus and Ukraine.

“Some of the sources of Russians themselves are Western. A lot of them are from Israel, France, etc. So, these are being brought in directly with their approval, or in certain cases we are coordinating the efforts and getting the spares. The issue was relevant for all platforms from Russia,” Parrikar said.

Parrikar further explained, "With concentrated efforts, we have been able to increase the serviceability of the Sukhois by about seven per cent over the last eight-nine months. We have improved the serviceability by seven per cent, almost from 49-50 to 56-57 per cent, we intend to get it 70 per cent by year end".

Wondering what are these spares that are to be sourced from Israel and France??
IMO for all types of fleet in operation in any coutry/airforce
1. Avionics Components? or part of avionics components (Chips, PCB boards, RF connectors etc). That may not be possible because most of the components are manufactured under TOT from OEM's. Simple example for RF type wires (where in connectors line Western BNC/TNC type connectors - russian SR-50/70 connectors) are used, impedence matching is a must for all purposes.
2. Accessories? Struts, Pumps, Gears boxes, Actuators etc as ready made assembly or part of the assembly?? I also doubt because these may not be readily available neither with France nor Israel when these components are manufactured mostly in Russia.
3. Spares/consumables? Rubber sealing rings, paper gaskets, rubber gaskets, metal gaskets, greases, sealants, nuts, bolts, rivits, anchor nuts, panels, fastners, filter elemets, glasses, carbon fibers etc. I also doubt if France nor Israel can supply these spares without some time gap where in they themselves do RnD on these spares.
4. Availability of ground equipment/testers etc and their spares. I also doubt because most of these equipments are usually designed, aircraft specific or system specific and cannot be brought off the shelf.

So, I guess the Hon'ble Defence Minister is either misquoted here or he is just blowing some hot air here.

These spares should be first in line for the "Make In India" initiative...

All these spares need to be manufactured here.
