Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi says that India should take better care of Indian origin people when they are in trouble like the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

He made these comments while delivering the Nani Palkhivala memorial lecture on ‘India and the World’ at the Madras University on Friday.

“Indians abroad are our biggest ambassadors, we have to make use of them in this area more actively,” he said.

“We have to take better care of them more actively - the colour of passports may change but blood ties never do.”

“We have to take better care of Indian origin people when they are in trouble like the Tamils in Sri Lanka,” Modi said.

If Sinhalese really believed that, then the SL Tamils would not have been driven away from SL and living as refugees in India.

In any case Indians do believe that SL have blood ties with India but the current issue is about the Tamils being treated badly and that is a burning political issue. How can a potential PM of India ignore the realities that face the Indian public ?

I hope India would change one day, so, What Indian politicians say before election, should be written down and preserved in museums.....to show future generations, how politicians 'played with' Indian public once....

Why ? Modi is absolutely correct in what he said.

India does have a moral obligation to all ethnic Indians who live in all parts of the world. Be it SL, Fijgi, Maldives, Mauritius, South Africa, Gulf, West Indies etc.

I am pretty sure Modi does feel strongly about this issue.

1. He means to help them in fighting sinhalese people.
2. He means to help them in their rehabilitation and over all upliftment of the tamil community in SL.

I personally think he was suggesting the second option but his statement is ambiguous and open to interpretation.
