A prototype Prahaar tactical-range surface-to-surface missile was sent for flight testing at Site III at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Orissa, on 19 July, according to local press reports. Developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation, the 150 km range Prahaar looks similar to India’s Advanced Air Defence interceptor missile and is probably a derivative of the latter missile.

It is designed to be fired from a wheeled launch vehicle that carries six ready-to-fire missiles, and requires two to three minutes to prepare to launch. Designed to deliver conventional warheads, Prahaar could enter service later this year or some time in 2014.

I hope they increase the range.

When is the test scheduled?

DRDO must work on PAD for longer range SAM.

The best thing about Prahaar is that 6 missiles are carried on one truck, this is far better than the
older Prithvi-1 where only a single missile can be carried by a truck.

What will replace prithvi -1,prithvi 3 or prahaar?

That and solid fuel over prithvi's liquid fuel. Its CEP is also far better than prithvi-1.

How many tests are required for it to be operational?? Also any news on Agni-5 test in this month??

Prithvi 1 is due for retirement soon enough. Eventually the Prithvi series will be phased out.

Prahaar of course. Prithvi-3 hasn't been operationally deployed, has it? I think it was just a testbed.

That is correct. Development of the Prithvi series has ended. They will be used as 'hacks' eventually.
