India releases ‘stray’ Pakistani soldier – The Express Tribune
POONCH: A Pakistani soldier, who mistakenly crossed the border into Indian territory around sunrise on Thursday, was allegedly handed over to Pakistani authorities, Express News reported on Friday.
According to reports from the Indian media, the action was taken as per the ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
NDTV.com, however, reported that the soldier was looking for asylum in India due to lack of basic facilities at the Line of Control (LoC).
The Indian channel said that Arif Ali, of the Frontier Force, was arrested around 6am the previous day. No arms were found in his possession.
In October 2011, India and Pakistan proved their commitment to the peace process when an Indian Army helicopter that strayed into Pakistan territory was returned with four army officials aboard after the courtesy of refuelling by the Pakistan Army.
