Indian navy officers work inside the control room of the Indian aircraft 'P8i, a long-range maritime patrol', as it patrols over the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

India on Sunday suspended its search operations for the missing Malaysian aircraft until new search areas are identified by the Malaysian government.

“The air and maritime search operations have been put on hold on request of the Malaysian authorities,” said Colonel Harmit Singh, spokesman for India’s army, navy and air force command in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands said.

“We will resume the search when we receive the information on the fresh search areas from the Malaysian side,” he added.

India’s air force and navy have been searching the areas around Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Bay of Bengal for three days but have found no sign of the plane yet.

Flight MH370 was carrying 239 passengers and crew when it vanished from the radar on March 8 more than one hour after taking off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
