India has objected to any Chinese firm or consortium being given contracts related to the building of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline. About 735-km of the proposed pipeline will pass through Afghanistan and another 800-km through Pakistan. But India reservations related stories
about Chinese participation in the construction could seriously affect the project. The gas sales agreement is slated to be signed this April. The Asian Development Bank, which has provided finance for the project, has already indicated that it wants to involve Chinese firms since these have "experience in building such long pipelines in a short time."

But Delhi is worried about the strategic implications of the move, said senior petroleum ministry officials. It fears that China's involvement in the project could lead to it being perceived as an “avuncular arbiter of peace” between India and Pakistan. It could reinforce the notion — which China is keen to create — that it is capable of managing the “security issues” in Afghanistan. It could even be interpreted as a sign of China playing a bigger role in the SAARC region in coming days.

Washington’s vital interest in TAPI includes having an alternative route for Central Asian gas that will bypass the Russian pipelines' network. A Gas Pipeline Framework Agreement, signed by four nations on April 25, 2008 in Islamabad, envisaged construction to start in 2010 and supply by 2015.

India joined the project in December 2010.

. .
India is only partner in the project and should not be able to dictate any terms. Chinese firms should have n equal opportunity just like any other firms.

.
What TAPI? India is just doing dramay baazi and no way in hell are they going to go for a pipeline through Pakistan.

.
Its passing through a major Sino influence region and yet they dont want any Chinese involvement. So who they expect to do the construction in Pakistan?? quit any dreams of indian contractors coming over..

.
Why not change the plan from TAPI to TAPC? That will take care of indian concern and let them talk to themself.

Pakistan needs to play the Iran card

Earlier India had pullout from IPI project so Pakistan’s SIS just need to send details related to this TAPI to Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRG) normally IRG don’t like India very much.

The rest will be nicely handled by Supreme Commander Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Common interest of Pakistan & Iran in Afghanistan remain same both want US & NATO out from Afghanistan.

SIS can tell nice details to IRG about the American presence in Afganisan

Also India supports USA presence in Afghanistan

Pakistan just needs to watch the nice game the Iranian Revolutionary Guards will play with in Afghanistan

Remember earlier bomb blasts at Indian embassy in Afghanistan

Indian missions in Afghanistan under constant threat: Indian FM

A day before he leaves for Afghanistan, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Friday said Indian missions in that country were under constant threat but President Hamid Karzai had promised full security.

"Our embassy and four consulates are under constant threat. We are working with the Afghan government to ensure that they give our embassy and consulates enough protection," Krishna told reporters here.

"We have been fully assured by President Hamid Karzai of security."

Besides its embassy in Kabul, India has consulates in Jalalabad, Kandahar, Mazar-e-Sharif and Herat.

In July 2008, two Indian diplomats were among those killed when suspected Pakistan-based outfits targeted the Indian embassy.

The security of Indian assets and around 4,000 Indians engaged in a slew of reconstruction projects will figure prominently in Krishna's discussions with the Afghan leadership.

Krishna leaves for Kabul on a two-day visit Saturday, his first overseas visit in 2011.

The visit is expected to underscore India's resolve to remain engaged in the reconstruction of Afghanistan amid Pakistan's reported moves to compel India to leave that country.

In his meetings with Afghan leaders, Krishna is expected to highlight India's stakes in peace and stability in Afghanistan for which it has pledged $1.3 billion for reconstruction activities ranging from building roads and railways to power stations and grassroots projects.

He is also expected to reiterate India's apprehensions on the proposed reintegration of the Taliban.
