India: Muslims offer to host Ardh Kumbh pilgrims
ALLAHABAD: In a unique gesture, a group of Muslims of Allahabad have got together and decided to provide food and lodging to the Hindu pilgrims visiting Allahabad during Ardh Kumbh mela. The arrangements will be made at their houses. A group of members of the community appraised Allahabad DM Amrit Abhijat about this and assured that they would ensure homely conditions to the pilgrims.
The DM told TOI on Friday that some Muslims led by a corporator had apprised him about their plan to lend a helping hand to the local administration.
Abhijat said community members residing in localities of the city including Jhunsi, Teliyarganj, Leader road, Jonsenganj, Kareli and Civil Lines have offered to provide good quality meals and living conditions to the visitors.
They would want to leave a positive impression on the pilgrims so that once they go back, they spread the message of communal harmony, the DM added.
Interestingly, the Muslims have asked women to prepare vegetarian meals for the devotees. Zafar Khan, said:"We have decided to continue the tradition that our forefathers followed during the Kumbh or Ardh Kumbh melas held in Sangam town."
