Emerging Threats - Briefing
India moves troops to China border
Published: Dec. 14, 2007 at 10:12 AM
NEW DELHI, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The Indian army has moved more than 6,000 troops to the Sino-India border following reports of Chinese intrusions in Bhutan.
Chief of Army Staff Gen. Deepak Kapoor said the reported intrusion of Chinese forces into Bhutan was a matter between the two countries, adding the Indian army has moved more than 6,000 troops to the border with China.
The shifting of army formations north of Nathu-La comes in the wake of reports that Chinese troops are coming close to the Siliguri corridor. The army authorities said Chinese forces had been coming close to the Dolam Plateau for more than two decades, as the boundary in the area is still to be precisely defined.
