India may buy more T-90Ss from Russia | Russia & India Report

India could sign a new contract with Russia for an additional batch of the T-90S tanks, UralVagonZavod Corporation Deputy CEO Vyacheslav Khalitov said.

“We don’t rule out an additional contract for our tanks,” Khalitov said at the MILEX-2011 international weapons and military exhibition in Minsk, Interfax reported. He didn’t specify the timing or how many Russian tanks would India like to procure.

Working jointly with Rosoboronexport, UralVagonZavod has been successfully fulfilling earlier contracts for supplying and manufacturing the T-90Ss at India’s Avadi plant under a license. “We have excellent relations with our Indian partners. Take for example the fact that ranking Indian officials have openly said that they would like to continue this project and sign a new contract with us,” Khalitov pointed out.

He added that preparations for manufacturing Russian tanks in India under a license have been successfully completed. “We supply our knock-down kits there, and they assembly our machines,” Khalitov added.

India manufactures some of T-90S components locally. “Local components production is accepted international practice,” the Deputy CEO said. The Indian Army has around 700 T-90S tanks in its arsenal, and a contract for the supply of another 400 units is being fulfilled. Each tank costs approximately $3 million.

Good News , With T-55's Being Phased Out , we need More Tanks to fill the Numbers
Hope Army Orders Upcoming Arjun Mk2 in Big Numbers

. .
^^^ I suppose IA is waiting for improved Mk2. I do hope if IA does chose to order more T-90 they ask more of them (recent shortcomings that have come to light) ie AC, thermal optics etc.

.
^^^
I thought we are building 1000 t90s in India....total around 1650....i think its enough.....
As far as t55 is concerned, i think we should replace our 550 t55 with Arjun mk2.....

.
Why can't we just buy the T-90 M which has the Shotra suite?!The Bhishma is a downgraded variant right?

.
No!Please no more T90Ss!Order the Arjun in place of the russian tin can.In that 1200mn dollar(3 mn per tin can)we can order upto 320 arjun mk2 instead of 400 metal coffins. It seems the top brass is putting the valucle lives of soldiers in grave danger to just satisfy their ego and pockets.Shame on them.In terms of protection, fir power and mobility t90s come no whear near Arjuns.

Inducting more T90's is a good move to counter pakistan and china. T90 is an efficient platform than arjun. Hence more T90's. Army knows well whether T90 is good or Arjun . We simply cannot say buy indigenous and to compromise on security.
Parallely e should induct Arjun's also . It will be helpful in knowing the defects and we can develop the machine further indigenously.

.
Why on earth buy more T-90s if India already produces them?

The Arjun is a monstrously complex tank to build.

So we'd expect to see large numbers of T-90s in the Indian Army. It would be the bread and butter of the armored corps.

We'll be producing them in India only, but for producing more than the contracted number, you'll have to pay for the excess.

Guys, the seller is expected to sell more but no where has India expressed interest to buy. A worthless thread.

“We don’t rule out an additional contract for our tanks,”

The whole article based on some probability.
