Hyderabad, Aug. 27: The Union Defence Minister, Mr V.K. Krishna Menon, said here this morning that sovereign India had no desire to wage war against anybody. Addressing the National Cadet Corps Rally at the Parade Grounds, Mr Menon said National Cadet Corps was an integrated part of citizenship training, he said the Government of India decided to attach much importance to NCC and decided to improve in its quality and quantity. He said NCC was intended to inculcate discipline, character and integrity among the youth. He said it was not the intention of the Government to militarise people but it was intended to prepare them how to conduct themselves well in their daily life.
Natural Calamities
Referring to natural calamities in the country, Mr Menon said the local population was not trained in any way to face grim challenge of natural calamities like floods, war and internal disorders. Under these circumstances, the Defence Minister said, it was the duty of the NCC to prepare the masses both mentally and physically to meet out the situation. Mr Menon pointed out that NCC was not an intrusion in the general scheme of education. On the other hand, he said, the training parted in NCC would prepare the students thoroughly to organise their curricular activity in a disciplined way.
