India and Germany on Tuesday held talks exploring the possibilities of collaborations in the manufacturing of six additional diesel-electric submarines as well as upgradation of the Dornier aircraft used by the Navy and Coast Guard.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar met his German counterpart Ursula von der Leyen for delegation-level discussions that continued for an hour. The German minister is scheduled to call on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday before flying to Mumbai where she would be visiting the Western Naval Command.

India is currently constructing six Scorpene class submarines with French cooperation at Mazagon Dock in Mumbai under the supervision of the Western Naval Command. Parrikar and Leyen are understood to have discussed the Rs 50,000 crore Project-75I for the construction of six more conventional submarines in an Indian shipyard with foreign collaboration.
“Partnering of Germany in the Make in India programme was discussed. Both sides exchanged views on the supply of state-of-the-art equipment and technology,” a defence ministry spokesperson tweeted.
The P-75I submarines will have air independent propulsion technology to enable these platforms to stay under water for a longer period.

The government has created a committee under the chairmanship of one of the senior most Navy officials Vice-Admiral A V Subhedar, the controller of warship production and acquisition in the Navy, to assess the capabilities of Indian shipyards – both public and private sectors – and submit a report based on which a decision would be taken.

Germany is the king of Europe at the moment! Good to see our partnership growing. 6 subs would be very good, that too made in India!

Instead of upgrading and scaling up Arihant submarines, Modi is again back to begging foreign firms to manufacture more for India. UPA-3 continues.

And why ask for Diesel submarine? These will be useless and outdated by 2022, the time when first one will come out. Instead, transfer nuclear submarine Arihant know-how to private industry and start scaling up their production. This is the most efficient way to go. Save money, build big numbers.

Inviting foreign diesel designs is useless now. Instead, use your brains and ask Germany to invest in Arihant program and in return offer Germany navy some of indian built Arihant.

Modi lacks self-confidence. He is behaving like a beggar(buyer) everywhere he goes. Russians/USA/France/China are exactly opposite. They are sellers.

Also, tell Germany - "If German Navy buys 6 Arihants, we will allow you FDI in india's insurance sector". ;) Indian politicians lack skin. Always behaving like a colonized beggar. Afterall, BJP needs "cut" in every deal.

China has self-confidence in their own engineers/scientists. They are dealing with world confidently. That confidence is lacking in Modi. He trusts foreign scientists, not his own.

One each year starting from 2015.

If they give us the blueprints for the Sub like they have given to Koreans for 209, I am all for it. We should take the design and keep building the subs ourselves. We had acquired knowhow for U-209 in 80's, But Rajiv Gandhi happened and we lost it.

Hi
Just my point of view.

We should give a follow on order of another 6 Scorpenes.
And for the P75i, we should scrap it, we should rather approach it like su30mki, meaning get Amur 1650, the weapons layout should be kept same. The hull mounted sonar should be Indian, the towed sonar should be the Russian flanked array sonar. The AIP should be Indian, the propulsion and navigation system should be German. It would be better than both Amur 1650 and Type 214.

Yeah I know it's wishful thinking.

Good day
Cheers
Thanks
