Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who came to India on Tuesday has signed seven Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on issues related to water sharing, railways, space, science and judiciary in New Delhi’s Hyderabad House. India is to extend nearly $9.5 billion to Bangladesh in concessional loans and is taking up several connectivity projects.

The official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi tweeted, “India-Bangladesh delegation level talks led by PM @narendramodi & PM Sheikh Hasina commence. On the agenda are issues related to connectivity, energy, water resources, trade & investment, border management & security, development partnership and regional & multilateral matters.”

PM Modi and Sheikh Hasina jointly unveiled Unit-I of the Maitree Super Thermal Power Project. The project is constructed under India’s concessional financing scheme and will add 1320 MW to Bangladesh’s National Grid, Arindam Bagchi mentioned.

The two country leaders also inaugurated the 5.13 km Rupsha rail bridge, a key part of the 64.7 km Khulna-Mongla Port broad gauge rail project.

PM Modi said, “Bangladesh is the biggest trade partner in the region. The people-to-people connectivity between both countries have increased. The expansion of connectivity and trade infrastructure at borders will help in the growth of both countries."

Bangladesh is one of India's top export destinations. India exports good worth $16.1 billion, from agricultural and allied products ($5.5 billion) to the readymade garments ($3.5 billion) and engineering goods ($2.8 billion).

I am surprised to read the news. For the last six months or so our BAL brats here were celebrating that our GDP per capita is higher than India.

And now a great shock. It is India that is throwing money at impoverished Bangladesh. BAL brats, practice shame!!

A part of this money will be handed over to Hasina before the election which she will spend lavishly to woo the BD voters. It is OK if only the election is held in a fair atmosphere and not a midnight election.

Another matter. Hasina Bibi has failed to influence Modi to request America to withdraw its sanctions on BD. Very good!!!

I expect a fair election under a caretaker government participated by all the parties.

Adding "LOL" at the end of sentence does not necessarily make it funny.

However, the funny thing is that Indian project loans may not be seen kindly by China. India does want BD to take any Chinese project loans. Let us see what happens next.

It was not meant to be funny, it was meant to be ironic....

Everyone knows you dont have the funds to cash your bogus checks.... no one is taking any of this bullshits seriously....

Its only for the consumption of hindutva propaganda...

In reality laons are only offered to worthy recipients, the better your credit history more folks are willing to lend you.
Folks with great credit history always get unsolicited loan offers.
I'm not sure why the Indians extending the credit line of $9.5 billion. Is it additional $9.5 billion or total $9.5 billion line of credit ?
One needs to understand credit line or ceiling, credit line is the total of all past loans and the available fund to lend
So if the credit line is $100, India lent you $50
And has $50 to lend you not to exceed $100 .

.
Hilarious nonsense.... will materialise as successfully as previous lines of credit...LOL
You have availed all the free grants from India but not the loans. Shows you just want freebies. 🤣

You mean paying for a vaccine and not getting it. Twisted world you live in !

Get over that vaccine issue. In crises, you have to take care of yourself first before you can help others. Also india was not ready for a full blown pandemic. Even the superpower US with best resources had to face its devastating effects. You have to understand BD was not the only country in line for vaccine. Under Vaccine Maitri, India has distributed 162 million doses to about 97 different countries( 14 million was given out free). BD being highly populated received 27 million doses, which is highest in our neighbourhood.
The grant, I was referring to was $200 million grant that was given as part of $2 billion line of credit package. The free grant was utilized but the $2 billion line of credit was partially utilized. I am not blaming BD for not utilizing fully $2 billion. India does not manufacture all the things that BD needs and hence under utilized LOC.
India's line of credit to its neighbors has been increasing since Modi came to power. From $3 billion in 2014 to about $18 billion in 2022. Add another $14 billion to that total that was announced yesterday to BD. Even this $14 soft loan will be under utilized. I still don't understand why you need that kind of loan when in the past you did not use it fully. 😕

You can look it up. It was part of $2 billion line of credit that was taken by BD few years back. I just remember that it was given in four instalments of $50 million each.

LOL, you make $9bn in trade from Bangladesh each year and you keep harping on a paltry $200mn years back. Even Bangladesh gave Sri Lanka $250mn.

It might interest you that BD has now surpassed India on UN HDI index.
