India dumps Arjun tank

Too bad for Indian defense industry (the one related to the tank project off course)
No matter how poor the performance of Arjun was it was still and home developed system and it is always good to have a domestic product in number even if you need a few high end stuff to support them. Arjun Mk2 If successful could have formed the back bone of Indian Army with a few Armata or other modern and superior platforms supporting Arjun on the field.

Anyway, your tank your choice. I am just explaining my point of view that Arjun could have been ok for IA.

.
We have indeed been very slow on Arjuna and Tejas that by the time they are inducted they would be obsolete.

.
We dont know who they partnered with for the design.

Its DRDO.

The TATA is the development agency. The design agency for this remains DRDO, specifically the Tata one which is being submitted.

Arjun has already been inducted as early as 2011

Arjun Tank inducted into 75 armoured regiment - The Times of India

The thread title is doctored and a speculative article is pasted, specially to attract the Ignorant pathologically Indophobic crowd
Knowing Indian Army wont compromize in its requirement and requirements keep changing, it is not easy for the public sector manufacurers to keep pace with them. Its a compliment that the Arjun Tanks have been inducted but after couple of years the same armoured regiment would expect a lot of innovation. Same is happening with Tejas. They built mark-I but when time came for their induction IAF crossed their utility. Rafale is 15 year old but it is being considered today for its use in coming 15 - 30 years.

. . .
Just google it. You will find the design agency is DRDO.

How about you post it here?

Not necessary. If a private firm wins to be the lead integrator of the platform, India will have another armored manufacturing plant, done by a completely new team lead by the private sector.

If OFB wins, then there's nothing new.

thats right onli if they could some how make it lighter

whats stopping them to make it lighter by putting an a very compact unmanned turret with autolader like armata :hitwall:

no russia will never do that even if IA orders more than 1000 MBTs in first order :coffee:
Even heavy tanks are fine for the purpose of fighting in the desert (intended role). The silhouette was low, gun systems were stable, the Mark II was out. Making an autoloader will actually make it heavier, but in any case scrapping it will be a bad idea. How long can a Mars orbiting country look to others to build a tank for them?

India to leap frog base on Russia Armata
This is Russia, not the Sowjet Union. There is no TOT here. Russians are not stupid.

but i think this time arjun is too old and too heavy for owr doctroine and im sure if given the right management and resources DRDO is capable of desigining a new platform

LOL at India. Cannot even make bullets domestically. Nevermind a tank. Everything that pretends to be domestic is always a partnership with another country.

Do you have any credible source other than just saying it's DRDO?

Fate of DRDO Developed Arjun Tank

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed project for development of Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun in March 1995, with delivery of 12 Prototypes and 15 Pre Production Series (PPS) tanks.

Initial sanctioned cost of the project was Rs.15.50 Crore in 1974, which was revised to Rs.56.55 Crore in 1980. A realistic estimate could be done in 1987 to Rs.280.80 Crore and accordingly DRDO obtained a sanction based on firmed up General Staff Qualitative Requirement (GSQR-467) and revised scope of the project. Finally, the project was completed in March 1995 with the total revised cost of Rs.305.60 Crore.

Army has floated Request for Indent (RFI) for ‘Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV)’ for a design competition to identify innovative design options which will form the base for a combat vehicle platform. It is also planned to subsequently develop other need-based variants on this platform, if found suitable.

These platforms are to meet the futuristic requirements of the Services beyond 2027 and are not in conflict with the current MBT Arjun Programme and its future orders.

Two Armoured Regiments of MBT Arjun Mk-I have been raised and operationalised. Out of total indented quantity of 124 Nos., 122 MBT Arjun Mk-I have been produced and inducted into Army. Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for quantity 118 Nos. For MBT Arjun Mk-II is in place

This information was given by Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Shri Raj Babbar and Shri Vijay Jawaharlal Darda in Rajya Sabha today.

That's not what I was asking for.
