They are free to join in. But it's more likely that they will just ignore Pakistan during wartime. The Chinese are not dumb enough to start a war over Pakistan, they have bigger things to worry about.

Any destroyed plane or ship can simply be attributed to dangerous war time conditions than a deliberate action by India to target China. They can just tell their public the ship or plane was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
