KUNA : India develops electronic device to counter radio controlled bombs - Power & Materials - 11/12/2013

NEW DELHI, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- India has successfully developed Electronic Counter measure Systems to counter radio controlled bombs like Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), Indian Defense Minister AK Antony said Wednesday in the parliament.
Antony said the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has indigenously designed and developed Electronic Counter measure Systems to counter "the threat of radio controlled bombs often called IEDs".
"The Protection System radiates high power electromagnetic signals and prevents the detonation of radio controlled bombs/ IEDs," the defense minister said.
He said the bomb countering device would be deployed for protecting high profile people and Security convoys.
"Systems worth nearly 3000 million Indian rupees have already been productionised and fielded to counter the threat of Radio Controlled bombs," he informed.

. . .
It will also mess with other devices. Hence not used by other nations.

Is there a way to block hostile signals and let friendly ones pass?

Like our worthy politicians? Jeeez! This one's not for protecting ordinary mortals like you and I.

.
Need to bring down cost and give it to forces working in Naxalite region.

Can be exported to US too which has IEDs as leading cause of soldiers' death.

AFAIK, similar thing was in use atleast 15 years ago. As some already pointed, it seems to be RF jammer. But it can jam RF controlled IEDs only. Other type of IEDs need to be countered differently....

I think given the technological advancement of the US....they would have thought of jammers to counter IEDs a long time ago....Afghan/Iraqi IEDs are not radio controlled...they are pressure sensetive(like mines)....

Yes....Jammers usually jam specific frequencies of the user's choice....so no problem with jamming your own signal!

. .
now make a vehicle mounted version of it so that it can be used against Naxals.

And what about security forces being killed by naxals on a weekly basis??? Most of them are caused by IEDs.
