New Delhi: The Centre has initiated a major move to give security infrastructure along the strategically critical India-China border a significant boost. As part of the plan, the government has agreed in principle to put in place state-of-the-art powerful radars and high intensity thermal sensors to check Chinese intrusion both by air and land routes.

Sources said the sophisticated thermal sensors can help detect movement of troops and vehicles from at least a few kilometres even in the dark and transmit signals to a control room or an outpost.

Intrusion by Chinese forces along the border has remained an area of concern for the security establishment.

After the NDA government assumed power at the Centre, it has attached high priority to securing the borders.

Hectic deliberations have been going on among multiple agencies and ministries within the government over the last few days over what steps should be initiated.

One of the issues flagged by security agencies during the meetings was the lack of technological equipment close to the border that can help provide an advance warning of possible intrusion attempts by the Chinese.

Sources said that a blueprint for installing the hi-tech equipments was being worked out.

“The territory along the Indo-China border is extremely hostile and it is virtually impossible to patrol the region on foot. So we have to rely on technology,” a government functionary said.

Make sure we back up systems and put a plan in place to verify any technical glitches or black outs. China has very sophisticated cyber abilites. They can easily shut down our networks and even put bugs in the very same equipment mentioned.

:what:o_Oo_O:what:

How much time will take it to get implemented and which radars are we talking about ??

Preferably Doppler radars - I think by the end of this year this is possible for - all of the systems that are to be deployed are indigenous being produced in the country itself - moreover we have already deployed infrared cameras on the China border!

What the fvck is shutting down systems and bugging it? Has it happened before? Keep your mental diarrhea with yourself.

And how do you think they can do that? What have cyber capabilities got to do with electronic/IR jamming?

And how are they going to put bugs in an IR sensor/thermal imager?

The last time we installed a camera in the Demchok sector, the Chinese simply ripped it off from it's pod and took it back with them. What exactly is going to prevent them from repeating the same?

If I could get a close look I would tell you but any electronic/IR jamming will relay its results to a command center/post and that's the achilles heel. Also, any device that uses a chip can be "hacked." I wonder what the possibility is of putting a fake image for the thermal imager to pick up? Radars are suspectible though.

We need to have a "red team" in play. Do you guys understand what that is? A group of ppl always testing for our weaknesses and exploiting, in order to correct the problems. Whatever we do in terms of defence or even in the corporate enviroment, we cannot be complacent. Friends and foes are constantly checking your systems.

Mate these sophisticated thermal sensors and Doppler radars can help detect movement of troops and vehicles from at least a few kilometres even in the dark and transmit signals to a control room or an outpost within seconds - we can send our troops on the spot even before the intruders realize that there is something that is closely monitoring them!

looks like you watched mission impossible yesterday

The sad thing is, the equipment they took will be ripped apart to assess its inner workings and capabilities. Im sure its not a big deal and off the shelf, easily available but it gives you an idea of how foe would use that info to their advantage by knowing its range, depth and other capabilites.

Did you look at the links I posted? That's real life....

I know bro. They'll be far inside our territory and out of harm's way(unless any skirmish breaks out). But you know what, the equipment they ripped off last time was also a thermal imaging camera.

There are ways to get over Doppler and thermal imaging....must be a bureaucrat coming up with this garbage. If its from the domestic industry, Im quite sure it will numerous weaknesses to exploit. IF its foreign it all depends who..

The tone of the article is enough to know from where it's coming from.
