India counters Islamabad's fake Kashmir photograph at UNGA with real picture of Pak-sponsored terrorism in J&K
In a major goof-up, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN Maleeha Lodhi had flashed a picture of an injured Gaza girl with no connection to India while alleging she was a victim of pellet guns in Kashmir.
Exercising her right to reply hours after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj blasted Pakistan for its support to terrorism, Lodhi, on the floor of the UN General Assembly, held up a photograph of a woman whose face was peppered with alleged pellet gun wounds. "This is the face of Indian democracy," Pak's Lodhi claimed.
However, the picture was a fake and India pointed that out when they replied to Pakistan. Ms Paulomi Tripathi, Permanent Mission of India to UN pointed out that the picture was taken on July 22 2014 by an American photographer. She called it a fake picture to push a completely false narrative. She also shared a picture of Lieutenant Ummer Faiyaz who was kidnapped at a wedding celebration by terrorists in May 2017, calling it a picture of terrorism. She said: "This is a true picture. It portrays a harsh and tragic reality. A picture of terrorism emanating from across our borders that the people of India, especially in the state of Jammu and Kashmir have to struggle with, every day. This is the reality which the Permanent Representative of Pakistan sought to obfuscate. "

Mr. President,
The Permanent Representative of Pakistan, in her statement, yet again sought to divert attention from Pakistan's role as the hub of global terrorism. She did so by callously holding up a picture of an injured girl.
It was a photograph of Rawya abu Jom'a, a girl from Palestine. The picture was taken on 22 July 2014 by an American photographer Heidi Levine. This photograph was published by New York Times on 24 March 2015 under the caption 'Conflict, Courage and Healing in Gaza'.
The Permanent Representative of Pakistan misled this Assembly by displaying this picture to spread falsehoods about India. A fake picture to push a completely false narrative.
Mr. President,
In view of this cynical and misleading attempt by Pakistan, we are constrained to show this Assembly, a photograph that reflects the real picture of pain inflicted by the nefarious designs of Pakistan on India.
This is a real and not a fake picture of Lt. Umar Faiyaz. A young officer from the Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir. Ummer Faiyaz was kidnapped at a wedding celebration. He was brutally tortured and killed by Pakistan supported terrorists in May 2017.
This is a true picture. It portrays a harsh and tragic reality. A picture of terrorism emanating from across our borders that the people of India, especially in the state of Jammu and Kashmir have to struggle with, every day. This is the reality which the Permanent Representative of Pakistan sought to obfuscate.
Mr. President, The true face of Pakistan is not hidden from anyone. Thank you Mr. President.
The incident took place when Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz had gone to attend the wedding ceremony of a relative.
Fayaz was abducted by five to six militants from his relative's house in south Kashmir's Shopian last night. His bullet-riddled body was found in Harmain area of Shopian on Wednesday morning, a police official said.
Hailing from Kulgam district, Fayaz was in the Infantry and posted in Akhnoor area in Jammu. He was commissioned in the Army in December last year.
The picture of 17-year-old Rawya abu Joma'a of Gaza, an alleged victim of an Israeli attack was actually taken by award-winning American photo journalist Heidi Levine in July, 2014.
The picture is available on multiple news websites.
"Rawya abu Joma'a, 17, at the Shifa hospital in Gaza City. Rawya was wounded when two Israeli air strikes hit her family's apartment. Three of her cousins and her sister were killed in the strike," says the caption of the photo on the website of the UK's Guardian newspaper.
Quite evidently, the picture has no connection with Kashmir. Lodhi, who is quite active on social media, including on Twitter, was silent after it emerged that she posed a fake picture during her right of reply at the UN General Assembly. The Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the UN also did not immediately respond to a PTI query on Lodhi's apparent use of such a picture.
