Lockheed Martin has offered to move global manufacturing for its F-16 jet to India
India needs new fighter jets, and the world's leading manufacturers are lining up to provide them.
The South Asian nation's government has sent letters to several companies regarding a new fleet of military aircraft, to be jointly produced with local firms. A potential deal, according to experts, could be worth up to $12 billion.

"India is looking at paying $65 to $80 million per aircraft for 150 aircraft," says Ben Moores, a defense and aviation analyst at IHS Jane's. The country faces an elevated sticker price for the fighters because government rules require most of the manufacturing to take place in India.

The requirement, which is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Make in India" initiative, is believed to have been a roadblock in India's most recent military aircraft deal with France.

That deal, which originally called for French company Dassault to supply the Indian air force with 126 Rafale fighters, underwent lengthy negotiations due to disputes over the local production clause.

Under the final terms of the sale agreed by India and France last month, India will only get 36 jets.

. . .
65 to 80 m$ per aircraft ?

only the russian can qualify !!

Russians don't have a single engine fighter. I believe all their fighters are heavy two-engine variety. No, sir. This sounds like India is going for the F-16, which will only be a stop gap until they get the Tejas rolling.

.
Money printing machine might just spend $1 trillion on it right?

The day "they" finish using ya...Gonna abuse ya so bad $$$$

at what price f16 block 52 was offered to pakistan....700m$ for 8 aircraft off the shelf.

how we going to get block 70 under 80m$ with TOT.

F-16blk 70 can be built for $80 million, but for some reason we sell overseas for way over that. take for example Iraq.

with such a large order of 150 aircraft the price will go down significantly, and being built in India will drive the price down as well, and spare parts will be cheaper compared to Russia as well.

a running assembly line in US always going to produce at less price then a assambly line transfered to india.who going to take the cost of shifting.

and its block 70 which incorporate the f35 elements..

the cost is a roadblocker here otherwise the article would have never written.

You will be surprised to know the feds shipped trillions to your puppies. Or they have it on the red line. Call and get.

Obviously it's not a loan. Its a token for your services.

F-16s for India? They should get training from PAF pilots. will lower the cost of the aircraft :enjoy:

it'll cost a few billion to setup a assembly line no doubt, but it'll be worth it.

not sure what F-35 elements will be incorporated into F-16 though  guessing avionics mostly.

would be cool if they can add the advance EOTS into the F-16..that would free up a hardpoint, lower drag, and RCS

150 F16 or Gripens will give a punch to Indian Air Force. However, any vendor that is selected should help India on Tejas.
