India begging again-After making Rs 3,000-cr Statue of Unity, India seeks aid for vaccine price hike

Now was PPP. Are you with me or are in some fairy land because the point which coming is important.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2046.html

India year 2011 ----- 21.9%
Pakistan year 2013 ------ 29.5%

Thats using different standards (national poverty line, or even private estimates and a few are the PPP world bank line).

You can even go down the list and see what the notes CIA factbook put next to some of them as caveats etc (eg. China, Israel changed its poverty line this so and so year to this so and so amount, argentina uses private estimates etc).

National poverty lines are often quite different from each other (and measured quite differently too).

Reason why World Bank PPP 1.9 dollar one is used, is its because its one standard reference for consumption.

Now there is an argument that can be made sure that just quoting extreme poverty is not really fair for poverty-at large (especially since poverty comes in many forms and not all consumption related). Hence why I said we can migrate to other poverty benchmarks (like MPI) if you want to. But each one has pros and cons.

Also I never said I support building of statues or other prestige projects (Esp using public money) at this juncture in India's development. In fact I am against it...so saying "effing" this and that is not productive ok? Just drop the f-bomb, theres no need for it here.

it doesn't matter if its 2018, if the stats come in today India would still be still at around 20 and Pakistan would still be hovering around 25-30 %.

Again the standards being talked about are not equivalent (India and Pakistan do not have the same national poverty line or methodology or institutions sampling and analysing it). It certainly is not 1.9 USD "normal" (I think you mean nominal) being used by either one of them.....but rather a threshold level in INR or PKR income respectively.

If you use higher level of PPP income for the threshold (say 3.2 dollars a day and 5.5 dollars a day)....you can see exactly the trend you are hinting about (in people being stuck in low income, but not necessarily extreme worst kind of poverty anymore):

https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SI.POV.LMIC.GP?locations=IN-PK

https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SI.POV.UMIC?locations=IN-PK

You can see just how big the bulk is now consuming between 3.2 and 5.5 dollars USD per capita in PPP.

So you see what I mean about poverty rate definition now? You can broaden it or narrow it as you want to....but each one has to be defined and debated as to its exact relevance to concept of poverty. Is consuming enough just to get by the definition....or consuming double or triple that the threshold? Or broadening it past just consumption (say health, education etc etc). The more broader and complicated you make it, you also affect the data quality negatively (Especially for large developing countries which do not have the same institutional capacity/intensity needed for the more nuanced poverty realms)....there is a trade-off.

Anyone earning less than INR 1000 per day per person needs to be classified as poor in India.

If you wanted me to change I would have done that, but I kept it that way because, that comment is un-edited and it was before you copy posting the same about PPP, without even reading my comment. I wanted to keep things simple for you to understand.

I don't want to bring health, nutrition, sanitation etc. into the mix this will only complicate things with you bringing your figures and me bringing mine.

Yeah the lowest one is 1.9 $ but it uses 3% and 5% etc.

Yup man my government trying to show the world that we were 29.5% in poverty line. Damn my government showing world we are poor. /s Please.....Now who is here believing conspiracies... CIA used the best possible estimates which they thought were more clear and true.

YOU(personally don't) but your nation does. Have you seen your country mates here? They bombard here thread after thread, delusions of grandeur. To them there is not a single person poor in India, and India is Shinning brighter than any other country.

Just drop the f-bomb, theres no need for it here.

Don't you worry, I won't call you a fag.

what you are looking is extreme poverty, like hellish level of poverty. By your provided link Pakistan extreme poverty is 2.1% (42 Lac) right
Full circle, this was my first comment btw. Meaning if they are in PPP 3 $ or 5 $ they are not in hellish level of poverty. So do at-least think that those living below 1.9$ PPP are in extreme worst situation, thank you for that.

The more broader and complicated you make it, you also affect the data quality negatively (Especially for large developing countries which do not have the same institutional capacity/intensity needed for the more nuanced poverty realms)....there is a trade-off.

Well to me figure somewhere in-between 3 and 5 seems reasonable because it would land India to 22% and Pakistan to 29 %.

Anyways I am done for today, btw do follow some of the threads from your Indian fellows as well.
