PressTV - India backs Iran's nuclear rights

India's permanent representative to the UN has expressed his country's support for Iran's peaceful nuclear program and rejected the use of sanctions to limit the entitlement of countries to nuclear energy.

“Like other countries, [Iran] has the right to peaceful nuclear energy and UN Security Council sanctions should not damage Iran's or other countries' economies,” India's Permanent UN Ambassador Hardeep Singh Puri was quoted as saying in a Friday report by IRNA.

The US and its allies accuse Iran of pursuing a military nuclear program and have used this unsubstantiated pretext to pressure the UN Security Council to impose a fourth round of sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

India's UN representative also underscored the importance of using diplomacy regarding Iran's nuclear program and noted, “We believe that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has the central role and anticipate Tehran to continue its cooperation with the agency.”

Iran, a signatory to the NPT and a member of the IAEA, insists on its legal right to utilize nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The IAEA has been regularly conducting rigorous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities despite the US-sponsored sanctions and allegations but has never found any evidence of the country's diversion from a civilian nuclear program.

The Indian diplomat further pointed out that the sanctions should not impact Iran's trades and commercial transactions.

Iranian authorities have fiercely refuted Western allegations against their peaceful nuclear program, arguing that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, Tehran has the right to pursue and utilize peaceful nuclear technology.

Great to see India standing up for Iran. High time too.

India Should Stand By Iran , As Every Country Has Right to Peaceful Nuclear Energy for Civillian Purpose

India has no moral right to back iran's nuclear program since it voted against it...It was India's nuclear future vs Iran's nuclear future while voting.

Good that our leaders showed some traces of spine. Our external affairs related policies should be framed according to our needs and we should not allow any other third country(read USA) influence it!
Off Topic-The IPI pipeline-If it had materialized, natural gas costs would have been reduced by a large percentage!

i personally think countries with nuclear weapons has no right to stop anyone from making one. if they are doing wrong then nuclear powers also did that in past.

If the world can have Jewish Bomb, Hindu Bomb, Catholic/protestant bomb then what wrong with Islamic bomb?

the higher chances of their crackpots using it... You have to understand that Pakistan is by far run by people who are of sane mind. They are not run by mullahs and its laws are still more civilized, it is modeled after European and civilized societies ( governance), even if you have fundamentalist at the lower levels. Alternatively- The iranian mullahs have threatened to wipe off Israel, holy jihad against the west, they are of extremely unstable minds- have you ever heard Pakistan's goverenec act as unstable ? not even about India ...

Iran having a nuclear bomb is a security threat for Pakistan too...their leaders are very unstable, but any attack on Iran's nuclear facilities means proximity to Pakistan makes it dangerous for Pakistan too. Now I'm sure you come back with your typical responses - but those are the world's concern - those of us who live in reality based threats
