The 4th International Exhibition and Conference on Civil Aviation, India Aviation-2014, will be
organised jointly by Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at Begumpet
Airport, Hyderabad from March 12-16. This year, the theme of the country’s largest civil aviation exhibition will be ‘Enhancing Air Connectivity’. Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Ajit Singh will formally inaugurate the show on March 12 and Andhra Pradesh Governor, Shri E.S.L Narasimhan will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony. This time at India Aviation, the state in focus is Karnataka while the partner country is USA and the guest country is France. More than 250-exhibitors including Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Dassault and Rolls Royce are participating in the event. Biggest aircrafts in the world, Airbus A-380 and Dreamliner Boeing 787, will be special attractions at the premier air show. The show will be open for general public on March 15 and 16. The initial three days are reserved exclusively for business community in which big deals are expected to be signed. At present, India ranks 9th with nearly 400 functional aircrafts and by 2020 the country will be on third position as the number of aircrafts would go up to 1000. To mark the occasion, aerobatics flying display will be presented by two teams from London. There will be two shows every day. Ambassador of France, Mr Francois Richier, Director of US Trade and Development Agency, Ms Leocadia I. Zak and Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Shri Ashok Lavasa will also participate in the event. CEOs Forum Conference, static displays and demonstration flights will be other attractive features of India Aviation- 2014.

India Aviation 2014: Russian Helicopters to display latest developments

Russian Helicopters, a subsidiary of Oboronprom, part of State Corporation Rostec, will be attending the India Aviation 2014 international civil aviation exhibition and conference, which will run from 12-16 March 2014 at the Begumpet airport exhibition centre, Hyderabad, India. Russian Helicopters will showcase its current and forthcoming helicopter models to operators from South and South-East Asia.

The new multirole Ka-62 will take pride of place at Russian Helicopters’
stand at the exhibition (stand 42, sector B). This new model, developed in close international cooperation, incorporates the latest technologies in aircraft building and the finest achievements in Russian helicopter construction. The helicopter is built to a single-rotor design with a multi-blade anti-torque rotor ducted into the tail fin, offering enhanced security for passengers and crew during take-off and landing. The Ka-62 is designed for passenger transport, offshore operations, transporting cargo internally or via an external sling, search-and-rescue operations, and evacuation missions. It can operate in a wide range of climatic conditions, over land or sea, day or night, in any weather.

Russian Helicopters staff will hold a series of meetings over the course of the exhibition at which they will show regional operators another new development, the Mi-171A2 helicopter. The Mi-171A2 is an advanced medium multirole helicopter based on the Mi-8/17 series that is in operation across the world. It incorporates the latest technology and is kitted out with modern equipment that expands its operational range. Operators’ needs and experience from operating Mi-8/17 family helicopters across the world were taken into account in designing and manufacturing this model.

Russian Helicopters will also show their business partners series models of the Mi-8/17 and Ka-32A11BC multirole helicopters, renowned for their reliability and effectiveness. The coaxial medium multirole Ka-32A11BC helicopter is designed for special search and rescue operations, building tall structures, complex fire-fighting missions, transporting cargo internally and on an external sling, logging, medevac missions, as well as for patrols and to support law enforcement operations. It is excellently suited to medevac and fire-fighting missions in large cities.

Russian-built helicopters have long been in great demand in India. Russian Helicopters companies have been supplying the country with helicopters for almost 50 years. India now has a fleet of about 250 Russian-made civil and military helicopters. Rosoboronexport currently supplies India’s Air Force with the latest Mi-17V-5 military transport helicopter model made by Russian Helicopters under a 2012 contract.

A380 takes centre stage

A customer A380 as well as models of its full civil aircraft product range will be at the heart of Airbus’ presence at the fourth India Aviation 2014 Airshow in Hyderabad between March 12th-16th.

An Emirates Airline A380 will be on static display for the first three days of the airshow to demonstrate the readiness of India and airports like Hyderabad International for A380 operations. Today, four major Indian international airports (New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore) are ready to commence A380 operations.

Airbus is India’s aircraft of choice, operated by all major Indian carriers and with over 60 per cent market share of new orders. Models of Airbus’ full aircraft product range (including India’s most popular single aisle, the A320, and Airbus’ market leading widebody aircraft: the A330, the A350 XWB and the A380) are on display on stand 24.1 in Hall A

There will be several announcements during the show.

India is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world. Airbus has fostered partnerships with India’s aviation sector for over 40 years, and supports its continued sustainable growth. Today, Airbus employs over 350 engineers at the Airbus India Engineering centre in Bangalore and training centres in Delhi and Bangalore. Overall, Indian engineering and manufacturing companies nationwide, including more than 5,000people, contribute to all Airbus aircraft programmes across the supply chain, making Airbus the largest overseas aircraft company in India.

Boeing forecasts Demand in India for 1,600 new airplanes

Boeing projects demand for more than 1,600 new airplanes in India over the next 20 years, valued at $205 billion. The company briefed its 20-year market outlook for the country today at India Aviation 2014, forecasting India’s commercial aviation fleet will grow more than five times in size.

“India’s demographics are highly favorable to the growth of air transportation,” said Dinesh Keskar, senior vice president of Sales, Asia Pacific and India, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “The share of India’s large population entering the workforce is growing. India could have the world’s fourth-largest economy if current trends continue helping drive demand for air travel.”

Boeing projects that passenger airlines in India will rely primarily on single-aisle airplanes such as the Next-Generation 737 and the 737 MAX, a new-engine variant of the market-leading 737, to connect passengers. Single-aisle airplanes will represent 83 percent of the new airplanes in the country.

For long-haul traffic, Boeing forecasts twin-aisle airplanes such as the 747-8 Intercontinental, 777 and the 787 Dreamliner will account for 15 percent of new airplane deliveries. Boeing’s recently launched 787-10 and 777X also will support the demand for fuel-efficient twin-aisle airplanes in India.

Globally, Boeing projects a $4.8 trillion market for 35,280 airplanes over the next 20 years, driven by an increase in deliveries from India, China and other emerging markets. That forecast represents the traffic growing at 5.0 percent annual rate over the next 20 years and the world fleet is expected to double by 2032.

Honeywell and Safran sigs MoU with GoAir to support Electric Taxing System

Honeywell and Safran have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with GoAir, one of India’s leading low-cost carriers, to support the advancement of the EGTS electric taxiing system, a technology that can save airlines up to 4 percent block fuel consumption per flight.

EGTS uses electric motors on the main landing gear to enable the aircraft to push back autonomously and taxi without using its main engines to improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions. The news follows an agreement with Airbus in December to jointly evaluate EGTS as an option for the company’s A320 family of airplanes.

“At GoAir, we are constantly looking for innovative ways to lower costs for our passengers while improving their flying experience at the same time,” said Giorgio De Roni, CEO, GoAir. “This agreement allows us to actively participate in the system’s development — a technology that we believe has the potential to not only save fuel and reduce costs, but also improve aircraft turnaround times and lower noise and emissions in the airport environment.”

Under the agreement, GoAir will provide data on its taxiing operations to Honeywell and Safran to assist in maturing the system and to define the precise fuel and other operational benefits it would see by using the technology across its fleets. The agreement will also see GoAir assist in establishing the airline standard operational procedures for aircraft equipped with the system.

“Where EGTS comes into its own is in supporting high-volume, fast-turnaround, short-haul movements, where aircraft spend a large proportion of the day on the tarmac taxiing,” said Brian Wenig, vice president EGTS Program, Honeywell Aerospace. “As the only electric taxiing system to receive support from a major OEM to date, EGTS represents an exciting, cost-effective technology for airlines to lower their fuel burn and save money.”

Since the technology’s “first move” last April on board the joint venture’s A320 test aircraft, EGTS has logged more than 200 kilometers of rolling tests, including various load configurations and runway conditions, complex maneuvers such as pushback, tight turns and U-turns, and varying specifications of acceleration and speed up to maximum takeoff weight.

“EGTS has a significant benefit over other systems in that it has a main-gear-based electric taxiing design,” said Olivier Savin, vice president EGTS Program, Safran. “Consequently, EGTS is the only onboard system currently in development that can generate enough traction to mitigate the use of engines during taxiing in all weather conditions and at all airports.”

Air Works signs agreement with EMTEQ

CEOs call for indigenisation, single certifying agency

The CEOs forum at the ongoing India Aviation show at Hyderabad has largely felt that the Indian aviation industry would be better off with single certifying agency authorised to issue civil and military flying rights simultaneously for any aircraft produced in the country.

A press note from HAL said: “The participation of high profile CEOs from Indian industry chaired by secretary, civil aviation, Ashok Lavasa, had free-wheeling discussions on several contentious as well as on-going business challenges.”

HAL chairman R K Tyagi, said that a single certifying agency would be in the national interest as it would mean huge savings in terms of costs and time.

“It is absolutely must to give fillip to our own products both in civilian and military segments and reduce dependency on foreign products,” he added. The theme of the forum was ‘Development of Sustainable Air Connectivity”.

The discussions also focused on the critical issue of some Indian products getting approval from relevant certifying agencies in Europe and USA.

“For example, our products such as Dhruv helicopter (civil and military variants) has proved its metal in the most challenging situation why shouldn’t it fly in America or anywhere else,” Tyagi asked, insisting that quick procedural solutions must be found at various levels to pave way for Indian products to fly abroad.

INDIA AVIATION: HAL displays civilian helicopter concepts

Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) says its planned 3t Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) should be ready for first flight in 2017, and has also proposed a VIP cabin configuration for its 5.5t Dhruv rotorcraft.

Although known mainly as a defence contractor, HAL displayed the two civilian helicopter concepts at the India Aviation event in Hyderabad.

The LUH will be able to carry up to six passengers and will be designed as a multirole aircraft.

HAL has yet to sell a VIP version of the Dhruv, which is widely used by the country’s military. However, the airframer believes there could be demand in India’s civilian and government sector for a VIP variant of the indigenously developed type.

India Aviation runs from 12-16 March.

HAL to play up civilian aircraft prowess at air show

HAL will showcase its civil aviation activities along with its airport services at the India Aviation 2014, a civil aviation expo to be held in Hyderabad from Wednesday.

“It will be a good platform for HAL to showcase its achievements in civil aviation sector since nearly 50 companies from all over the world, including the global giants are participating in the exhibition along with scores of delegates,” said RK Tyagi, Chairman, HAL.

The company will be displaying models of the VIP version of its ALH, Multi-role Transport Aircraft, Dornier and Light Utility Helicopter .

HAL is also focusing on its airports at Bangalore and its new airport terminal at Nasik.

“Given the congestion at Mumbai Airport, HAL Ozar Airport (Nasik) would be an ideal airport for cargo operations and night parking as some aircraft have to go to Nagpur or Ahmedabad just for parking,” said Tyagi.

INDIA AVIATION: Beechcraft gears up for Indian growth

Beechcraft sees significant opportunities for growth in India, and believes that the country is progressing towards embracing business and general aviation. “India is making progress and things are improving,” says John Williams, the company’s newly- appointed country director for India. “There are still issues but they are working on them.” Wiliams was speaking with Flightglobal at the India Aviation show in Hyderabad. The company brought three aircraft to the show: a King Air 350ER, a King Air 250, and a King Air C90GTx. Beechcraft’s confidence is highlighted by the recent opening of an office in New Delhi and appointment of Williams. Prior to joining Beechcraft, Williams worked for a major US defence contractor, where he spent years dealing with India’s military acquisition offset processes. Williams estimates that there are 65 Beechcraft turboprop and piston aircraft operating in India. Most of these are owned by state governments, charter companies, and other firms. One challenge Williams sees is that India makes no distinction between aircraft used for private or air transport purposes. This greatly complicates, and adds cost, to owning an aircraft in the country. Other items, such as gaining flyover permits from Indian states, can take up to 72 hours to obtain. Still, he has noted definite improvements over recent years, such as reduced bureaucracy in relation to obtaining landing permits.
