I do not think that Chinese think that. I believe that they have the correct assessment of Indian leadership, influence and strength now. The golden period for them is over since the end of MM regime. The current government and leadership is too tough for them to get any undue advantage.

OTOH they really might want to normalize relationship with India under Modi. After all that is where their self interest lies and when required, Chinese are pragmatic enough.
