We all know that the Mig-29K has a combat raius of 850km.God forbid in terms of war if they r placed 500km east of Mumbai then they can easily attack Gwadar Naval base...In addition to challenge our ships which will do a Naval blockade of Indian oil from Strait of Homruz.....Can
anybody explain what should be our defence strategy aginst that :pakistan:

@ super falcon
hello buddy doesn't india already operating Dasualt mirage 2000-9? Why would pakistan buy something that india already master of it? Doesn't make sence. Its like india picking F-16 for MMRCA. 'Simply suicidable'. As far as i know mig-29K is a new jet fighter similar to mig-35. Its not a jet fighter that can be bullied. Even russia dumping su-33 for mig-29K Buddy.

Mirage 2000 is dead meat in close combat with a MiG 29. I rather suggest P3C with a potent sub force for Sea denial. Mirage 2000 needs to be modified to carry the Harpoon for which Unkil must permit.

Wrong supersonic26...India operates mirage 2000H/TH clearly not 2000-9 better be updated yes if Pakistan get them we can operate even if India operates or call them selves to master it Hellenic Air Force and turkey both operates F-16s and have mastered it.

Mirage 2k9 is our best option. And especially the UAE mirages are pretty well upgraded

There is a difference between range and combat radius.

The range of MiG-29K is 3,000 kms hence they can be launched from deep inside India or even from Dabolim (Goa) and do their work at the locations you have mentioned above.

Missions performed

MiG-29K Carrier-Based Single Seat Fighter is intended for:

Day/night strikes with precision-guided weapons
Anti-air warfare
Fighter escort
Close air support
Suppression of enemy air defense
Maritime strike
Reconnaissance
Forward Air Control (Airborne) (FAC(A))
Air-to-Air Refueling

MiG-29KUB Carrier-Based Two-Seat Fighter is intended for:

acquiring and upkeeping the skills in piloting and navigation;
practice of combat operation maneuvers;
performance of combat missions identical to those of the MiG-29K single-seat fighter.

Tanker role
MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB can perform aerial refueling if they are furnished with UPAZ refueling unit. The MiG-29K, unlike the previous MiG-29, is designed so it can be equipped with an aerial refueling system (ARS) or "buddy store" for the refueling of other aircraft.

Radar

Zhuk-AE AESA radarThe Zhuk-ME is an advanced variant of the original N010 Zhuk radar introducing advanced air to surface functions like mapping and terrain following. The radar forms part of the MiG-29K specific equipment. The radar features improved signal processing and has a detection range of up to 120 km vs a 5 m2 RCS target for the export variant, and up to 10 targets tracked and up to 4 attacked at once in air to air mode. The tracking range is 0.83 - 0.85 of the detection range. In air to surface mode the radar can detect a tank from up to 25 km away and a bridge from 120 km away, a naval destroyer could be detected up to 300 km away and up to two surface targets can be tracked at once. The radar has a weight of 220 kg and a scanning area of +/- 85 degrees in azimuth and +56/-40 in elevation. The antenna is an electronically scanned slotted planar array and has a diameter of 624 mm.

The Zhuk-AE radar was developed with modular approach, enabling upgrading existing Zhuk ME radars, deployed in MiG-29 platforms into the phased array equipped Zhuk-AE standard. India is already operating the BAR phased array radar on its Su-30MKI and has specified AESA as a critical element of the MRCA platform. The MiG-35 is a contender with the Eurofighter Typhoon, F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, Dassault Rafale, JAS 39 Gripen and F-16 Falcon for the bid of more than 126 multirole combat aircraft to be procured by the Indian Air Force in Indian MRCA competition. There were some reports that the optional Mig 29K/KUB for India are offered with Zhuk AE.

me waiting for the fulcrums on vikramiaditya... that would be a relly soothing sight...:cheers:

No need for a knee jerk reaction here.
IN is building a strong naval air fleet consisting of fixed and rotor aircrafts. We all can share our opinion and in my opinion after 2015 when Mirage-5 life in PAF is over it should be replaced by a dedicated naval JF-17 squadron. As mentioned by various sources PN has a desire to raise another squadron of MRCA and IMO it should be Chinese J-11C. I believe their are about 3 squadron of PAF for naval support all consisting of nothing but mirages. At least one squadron must be replaced by Rafales and the rest by JF-17s.
So JF-17s
J-11
Rafales should do the trick.
and not to forget 18-36 block 52+ stationed not so far away from Arabian sea which may work as stop gap with Harpoons once PAF/PN southern air command gets in better shape.

More and more subs, with stealthy Type-022 kind of FACs would be a best option to keep Indian Navy far away from our shores with good chance of keeping our sea lanes open and shore line safe to the possible extent. And atleast 2-3 Sqds of dedicated twin engine based fighter aircrafts would be good to back up the naval forces.

Ok how about modified JF-17s with CFTs and air refueling capabilities atleast initially a couple of squadrons...

"We need dash 9 Mirages agree with me"

Just out of curiosity here, what are/could be the key differences between a PAF JF-17 and a PN JF-17? As they both will be essentially land based, since PN doesn't plan to operate a carrier, will there be any substantial difference in avionics, armaments etc.?
