ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Wednesday that Pakistan’s creation had been pointless if the country fails to become an Islamic welfare state.

Speaking during a press conference in Islamabad, Khan said that the failure of Pakistan becoming an Islamic welfare state will be a deception for all Muslims residing in India, because Pakistan was “formed on the very basis of becoming an Islamic welfare state.”

The PTI chairman said that there was no concept of welfare states in Europe and that they had taken this concept from the Muslim world. “They formed all the Scandinavian states based on this concept. They call it Omar’s law there. We need to bring our culture back to our own land.”

Speaking on the issue of drone strikes, Khan said that he was happy to see former US president Jimmy Carter’s criticism on the drone attacks. “Carter openly criticised [US President Barack] Obama’s drone campaign and termed it as assassination. He said that it was not only a violation of international laws but also humanitarian laws.”

“We have seen the Pakistani parliament’s resolution coming into place against drones, it is accepted worldwide that the drone campaign is wrong and the public support for it is on a downward spiral.”

Sometimes he Talks about Secular Turkey and used to say that we want Model of Turkey in Pakistan and on the other hand he changes his statements that Islamic Welfare State is the best Model. Islamic state in other way is known as a Country with a Full Sharia system like Saudia and Iran ??. Is Pakistan ready to Become Saudia and Iran right now???. :undecided:

To be honest, i think the guy is playing vote bank politics. Is he then any different from Zardari ?

At least Zardari has experience.

We should thank Imran Khan for making his views clear for once and all. If we ignore all the BS about Omar's law, how westerners got socialism from Islam etc., we see where he will take Pakistan given a chance. He is still talking the same talk of politicians; words which ZA Bhutto might have used as slogans. His only selling point would be now his stance against corruption. People say he is a very honest and straight person. Let us see what happens. Somebody should ask him what he thinks of Sharia and whether it is right for Pakistan. His answer will settle a lot of arguments and start a whole new set of them.

Ahhh...good glad to hear that ! Lets hope that it truly is an 'Islamic Welfare' state along the lines of what, I believe, Iqbal and Jinnah wanted ! * read Iqbal's Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam and read the Constitution of Medina and then look at Jinnah's speech*

I think people are misunderstanding, he said he sees Erdogran and Muhatir muhammed as great examples of today. He never said he will wholesale copy and implement thier style of goverment in Pakistan. Pakistan has to come up with its own form of goverment suitable for its people.

And I think the difference between an Islamic welfare state which was 1400 years old and the western welfare state is that, the welfareis not collected and shared through excess tax but by voluntary contributions.

U cant virtually run a welfare state in today's world... Already people are not paying taxes, imagine if its made voluntary?

Indians seem to be more worried about anything related to Islam and Pakistan . Hardly you find a Pakistani doing that in Indian internal matters. I don't know why we always need to reaffirm that this is OUR country and we will run it exactly the way WE like.

Democratic Islamic Welfare State is a model which majority Pakistanis believe can be a substitute to both secularism and Iran or Saudi like theocracy. Most importantly this is what Jinnah wanted Pakistan to become.

In all honesty a society like Pakistan never will become secular nor will it ever accept a religious theocracy which is evident from poll share the JI or MMA gets. DIWS model is a 'balanced' system of governance which allows a free market economy , minority rights and a balanced worldview.

So Im all in for it.

Regards

I don't like IK, but yet who ever has this stance I am with him, whether it's Jamiat (who went against PML-N when they tried that), PML-N (who was with alot of power yet didnt implemented this, just words only) and last IK ( who was some days back a play boy yet now backing Islamic era).

Who ever speak about Islamic State I am with you, Since those so called secular on the forum (& outside) always forget that they have been created to follow Quran. And by following Quran doesnt only mean prayer, zakat, and other stuff but also Quranic Social Laws to be implemented in the state. This really dont mean TTP style Islamic State (Since that is not islamic but Just pure stupidity).

Think about it!!

I think there will still be taxes on land etc.
However your earnings are your hard-work and you get to keep all of it. Unlike west where they take a huge chunk of your earnings out to fight someone elses war.

Need this to be confirmed though.

It depends upon how you run the state? If your government is corrupt, and out of 2.5 Trillion 500+ is known corruption, don't know how much not seen corruption. If this remain even if government is able to generate 10 Trillion it wont be enough. And a average Pakistan pays like 35% of his spending in Tax only (from indirect ways) and those who pays direct taxes pays 60% of there spendings. But how you guyz will know, you never seen any Arab country which is running on just oil money. While Pakistan has Coal, Copper, Gold, different types of Gems, agriculture, and best 180 Million people to run the country. But still feel since people are not paying tax that's why it is happening.

Someday try to sit on any toolplaza and count how many verical daily cross, and then try to count total number of the roads and their tool plazas and then try to think British with just 3% Taxes (where mostly people dont used to pay). They build roads even at most rural areas of Pakistan, yet Pakistani government was unable to maintain all of them and now we dont have major roads to those rural areas. Issue is corruption rather then not paying tax. If some clean person come people will give hard earning money, rather then Just Tax. Still Pakistan is the biggest country who pay charity and runs 1000s of madras, mosques, orphan houses, hospitals, and so o on... just on charity..

well you don't know much about Pakistan, currently 90% of public welfare work is done by charitable organization in Pakistan. Most Pakistani dont pay taxes because they have no trust on the govt instead they contribute to charities, charities that run health care services, food banks, monthly income services, educational institutes. even in the worst economic conditions as we now have, you dont see widespread hunger in Pakistan. So, Pakistan is unofficial welfare state.
