LUCKNOW: A student of IIT-Kanpur who hails from Delhi has received a job offer of nearly Rs 1.5 crore per annum from Microsoft . This is the highest ever salary offer to a student of IIT-K, sources at the premier institute told TOI.
. . The student has been offered a position at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond. Sources said he will design a software, implement it and fix the bugs.
.
. He will get $136000 (Rs 94 lakh) as base pay and $70,000 for relocation, medical and visa charges and stock ownership options. The total package, taking into account annual bonus and joining bonus, works out to nearly Rs 1.5 crore. Last year, the highest base pay offered to a student at IIT-K was Rs 93 lakh.
Elated after getting the offer, the student, who requested anonymity, broke the news first to his wing mates. "This is really exciting. Software once again has turned out to be the flavour of the placements," he said.
. . When TOI contacted student placement officer Prof Syam Nair, he said, "I am not going to comment anything on the salary packages.''
This year, sources said, companies that provide technology for reservoir characterisation, drilling, production and processing to the oil and natural gas industry are missing. Both Transocean and Schlumberger, which were seen on the campus during placements till last year, are absent this year. Placements are seeing an increase in trading firms. Amsterdam-based Flow Traders walked in for the first time.

You have to understand this is a dream salary, if you are a student in India plus visa to go to US. Even IIM students are getting this kind of salary from Indian companies.

Congratulations. Here are some amazing facts about India.

Only in India brain drain is celebrated with chest thumping.

To be honest, These MNCs in India pay peanuts to these talented folks then why would anyone want to work here?
Indian companies pay well compared to these MNCs

US has an average annual household income of $45,000 USD.

You're saying that a single person earning $120,000 USD is 'hardly good'.

Right. Guess it takes a Pakistani to tell other's what good income and education is all about.

That is moronic in the extreme. India can only succeed when Indian talent is allowed to flower, wherever that may be. A closed shop in India would lead to creating a nation of morons, Indians have to test themselves with the best in the world and that creates the intellectual ecosystem that leads to entrepreneurship and creativity.
Trying to create in the foetid, rote learning, paper degree valuing, rigid, bureaucratic, nepotist, class and caste driven, money valuing, kissing the bosses *** society will only grind talent into nothingness.

This stand very true for now since India lack work ethics compared to west or even east Asian countries. But if talent stays outside its no use for India or Indians living in India anyways. My only and only worry is how we see India in next hundred or 2 hundred years if India keep losing extremely exceptional, talented god gifted people :-).
