IGP Benazir Ahmed has cancelled his trip to Germany planned for this month amid a controversy over the visit regarding "procurement of one lakh pieces of bedsheets and pillow covers for the force".

Md Kamruzzaman, assistant inspector general of police at the Police Headquarters, said this to The Daily Star yesterday.

"We wrote to the home ministry on Monday seeking cancellation of the government order [GO] as it mentioned pre-shipment inspection of bedsheets and pillow covers as the reason for the trip," he said.

On Wednesday, the PHQ in a press release sought to clarify the reason for the cancellation, but did not mention about its letter to the home ministry.


The release said false and misleading information was spread on social media recently stating that the inspector general of police would visit Germany to buy one lakh bedsheets from there for the police force.

"A quarter is trying to tarnish the image of the police force by spreading rumors on social media intentionally due to an inadvertent linguistic confusion created by the home ministry's order," it added.

On February 7, the ministry issued the order sanctioning a nine-day visit to Germany anytime between February 2 and 28.


According to the order, the delegation would visit the European country to "participate in the Factory Acceptance Test [FAT]" relating to shipment of one lakh pieces of bedsheets with pillow covers (double).

The order drew criticism from different quarters.

Earlier, AIG Kamruzzaman had said the delegation, led by the IGP, was to visit Germany to assess the dye to be used in the bedsheets and pillow covers which would be produced locally.

As per the tender specification, the local company has to use quality dye from a European country and a team will travel there to assess the quality of that dye, he said.

"Since it involves a huge amount of money, the IGP sir himself will visit Germany to assess the quality," he told The Daily Star previously.

The PHQ release said in fact police are not buying bedsheets with pillow covers from Germany which does not produce and export bedsheets. It is rather a country of heavy industries.

Stating that the IGP has no reason for going to Germany to buy bedsheets and pillow covers, the release said as per the Public Procurement Rules a government procurement official cannot purchase or collect public goods like personal items visiting any market or country. There is a government procurement process in this regard, it said.

The statement said Bangladesh Police always purchase bedsheets and pillow covers made by local manufacturers through local tenders. This year too, the police have taken steps to buy bedsheets and pillow covers made in Bangladesh through local tenders.

Social media is claiming Benazir was trying to flee BD to settle in a country other than America. With overextending his BAL credibility to impress Namrudi Begum, Benazir and his near families are all in deep trouble.

I personally have no sympathy for Benazir. Now they cannot flee. They have to die in Bangladesh the country of poor blacks. Benazir overdid things and overextended his hands to make many people suffer.

However, Namrudi Begum is the main criminal. She will suffer, too!!!

I don't know about Hasina, but Benazir for sure will not have access to his stolen millions. Unless he decides to go to say, Malaysia. They will give him a place to live I guess...

Now, even if Benazir and others choose Malaysia, Singapore, or Dubai, they may not be able to access their money in the USA or Canada. He/ they cannot sell properties there.

These guys cannot remit money in a legal way. Even their google accounts may have been closed already.

Their immediate family members like wives, sons, and daughters are similarly sanctioned. So, the best for Benazir would be to sell his Penthouse and other fixed assets in Dhaka and move out before the election.

However, I will not be surprised if the countries above do not accept these defamed persons. Because a non-BAL govt will ask for their extradition which is a tedious job to handle by those govts.

The diplomatic relationship suffers at that even though there is no extradition treaty between BD and those countries.

আর এসব তো আগের সবাই করত। অন্তত হাসিনা সরকার অনেক উন্নয়ন করেছে, বিশেষ করে বিদ্যুৎ ব্যবস্থার। যে ভাল কাজ গুলা হয়েছে সেগুলা অস্বীকার করার সুযোগ কোথায়?

আওয়ামী লীগের দিকে তাকাইয়েন না। এই সরকারের সাথে আওয়ামী লীগের তৃনমুলের ( যেগুলা চোর আর লম্পট) সম্পর্কও বেশি নাই।

এর পর দেখেন হাসিনার বয়স হইছে। সে মনে হয় না আর এক টার্ম ক্ষমতায় থাকতে চাইবে।

তাই এই নির্বাচনের আগে জাতীয় সরকার গঠিত হলে সেটার হাতে ক্ষমতা সমর্পন করে নিরাপদ আর সম্মানজনক বিদায়ের রাস্তাই কি আসলে হাসিনা ক্লিয়ার করছে না?

এর পর ২/৩ বছর জাতীয় ঐক্যমতের সরকারের হাতে দেশ থাকুক, দেশ এমনিতেই লীগের অতি দলীয়করনের প্রভাব মুক্ত হবে।

যদিও এই জাতীয় সরকারে আওয়ামী লীগের ও প্রতিনিধি থাকবে। না হলে আবার চেতনার হাউকাউ শুরু হবে এই বলে যে এইটা আসলে জাতীয় ঐক্যমতের নামে জামাতী সরকার!

তাছাড়াও জাতীয় ঐক্যমত মানে সবাই থাকবে কেউ বাদ যাবে না। তাছাড়া ঐক্য হল কিভাবে?

এর পর এই সরকার ২/৩ বছর দেশ চালানোর সময় যখন দেশ দলীয় করন থেকে বেরিয়ে আসবে, তখন লীগ ও মাঠ কাঁপাতে পারবে না। কারন হাসিনাই যদি অবসর নেয়, কে মাঠ কাঁপাবে বলেন?

আর হাসিনা এত মহানও নয় যে নিজে অবসর নিলে দলের জন্য কেঁদে বুক ভাসাবে! সে চাইবে নিরাপদে দূরে থেকে অবসর জীবন কাটাতে!

আর এর পর বাকি থাকে চেতনা গ্রুপ। এরা কার অধীনে রাস্তায় নামবে? দেখেন না এই সরকারই এদের পুলিশ দিয়া যেভাবে পিটায়?পরে এরা রাস্তাতেই দাঁড়াতে পারবে না।

এর পর জাতীয় সরকারের অধীনে নির্বাচন হলে আশা করি ৩য় দল ক্ষমতায় বসবে।

কারন লীগ আর বিএনপির সেই সাংগঠনিক জোর আর নাই।

কাজেই দেখেন সাপ মরবে আর লাঠিও ভাংবে না, এই দিকেই কিন্তু দেশ অগ্রসর হচ্ছে।

The meeting venue was near the GPO but suddenly she changed it to near the party office. So, how anti-BAL groups can organize the attack. It was done by Hasina with the help of the brothers of General Aziz Ahmed.

The truck she was on was the nearest to the high building from where the grenades were thrown. But, that Namrudi Begum was not hit but many others were killed.

Yes, since you have asked me, I will always be ready with a camera and other apparatus to take pictures when Hasina kills other people as she did in the Grenade and BDR killings. Unfortunately, I was not in these places at the time of their happening.

Do you think I did all these things to make Hasina popular? You should use your brainpower to know and understand what is called "Circumstantial Evidence". All the evidence lead to Hasina Bibi herself. Even the 10-truck weapons tracking in Chittagong was done by this Namrudi with the help of RAW.

No, this time the 10-truck weapons were discovered by Kalimullah who has been set up by the BAL high command to work as a clandestine BAL B-team.

Better you talk about the BNP-time 10-truck weapons. RAW talked to Namrudi Begum, send 10-truck weapons to Chittagong port, and Namrudi sent an off-duty Police OC to find it out.

It was a very easy plot worse than Masud Rana story. Namrudi Begum is full of cheap tricks. But, not any of her tricks can give her another Deep Night win in the next election.

People will hang her in the neck in a light post. Namrudi is the enemy of Bangladesh.
