ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Tuesday issued immediate orders to the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) for the disconnection of electricity supply to 18 government institutions including the President House, Prime Minister's Secretariat, Parliament Lodges, official residence of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Sindh and Balochistan House, DawnNews reported.

Moreover, orders were also issued for the disconnection of electric supply to the head offices of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), Capital Development Authority (CDA), Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), environmental directorate, Punjab Jail, Motorway Police, Pakistan Public Works Department, and the office of TMO Rawalpindi.

Various public and private sector departments owed more than Rs3 billion to the Iesco which had been sending notices to these departments for some time over non-payment of dues.

Owing to the dues, the Iesco on Monday had disconnected the supply of electricity of around 100 buildings and departments for non-payment.

ISLAMABAD: The Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali ordered Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO) on Tuesday to disconnect the electricity supply to the President House, Express News reported.

He also has ordered that the supply should be disconnected from the Parliament lodges, Sindh House, Balochistan House, National Database Registration Authority, Motorway police and the Capital Development Authority.

He further instructed IESCO to disconnect the electricity supply to Frontier Works Organisation, Petroleum Commission, Public Works Department, TMO Muree, TMO Rawalpindi and the environment office.

During a press conference in Islamabad, Ali said that the electricity connections to all institutions as well as individual consumers who have not paid their bills will be disconnected.

He stated that it was unfair to say that any one province was being target, further stating that the ministry will not let anyone steal electricity whatever the location may be.

The minister also revealed that the Sindh owed Rs56 billion in electricity dues while Azad Kashmir owed Rs33 billion, adding that a campaign against electricity thieves had been started.

Ali also said that he has told Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that if markets were closed around 8pm then 1000 megawatts of electricity can be saved.
