IEDs, Paks new weapon to target Indian soldiers
Precisely a month ago, Indian army was in for a major shock when militants backed by Pakistani troops detonated two powerful IEDs using a remote control device on the Line of Control in Saujiyan sector of Poonch.
The target was the porters carrying supplies to the forces on the frontline. A porter Javid Iqbal and a pony died in the blast. The attack signaled Pakistans new game plan of planting and detonating IEDs and mines on the LoC to hamper the movement and inflict casualties on Indian side while sitting in a remote place.
Intelligence agencies say that Pakistani Border Action Teams (BAT) comprising army regulars and militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba have been tasked to plant Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and landmines on the Line of Control (LoC) especially in the Poonch sector. Sources said Pakistani army is using the militants, who are waiting to infiltrate after being trained in the terror camps across the LoC, as multi-purpose mercenaries with a twin job of creating subversion besides planting mines and IEDs in the hinterland.
The mines are being laid on the tracks in the hinterland so that the security forces movement could be hampered with. Besides planting IEDs the militants have been tasked to lob grenades on Indian posts to inflict maximum casualties, sources said.
Sources cite the example of July 1 when an militant was blown into pieces when the explosives he was carrying went-off during a gun fight with security forces on the LoC in Saujiyan sector. The militant, sources said, could have been on the suicide mission but luckily he could not succeed.
