For how long ? Ideally about 3 weeks are required to cover most of the island, But here are a few tips

Colombo - Shopping/ Dining out/ Street food/ Night life (Clubs,Pubs, Lounge Bars,Casino's etc)

Cultural Triangle (Kandy, Anuradhapura, Pollonnaruwa) - Ancient cities/ Buddhist monuments / Other medieval Architecture

East Coast - Surfing/ Less crowded beaches and wild life

South West Coast - Surfing/ Sun and Sand/ Beach bars and raves/ Whale watching/ Scuba diving

Galle - Colonial Dutch architecture/ Forts/ Shopping/ Chilled out vibes

Yala, Wilpattuu/ Minneriya etc - Wild life/ Safari's/ Elephants, Leopards, Sloth Bear etc (Please avoid Elephant rides and Pinnawela Elephant orphanage it's a tourist trap amounting to animal abuse)

Central highlands - Cooler climate/ Tea/ Luxury colonial villa's/ British architecture/ Sports (Golf, Horse races, Adventure sports etc)/Trekking

Jaffna - Hindu heartland/ Tamil culture

Just a few attractions among many others to choose from, Also check this thread out you will get some pointers of what to do.. Have fun, Cheers

Very detailed description, that will be a lot of help! My trip will be about 8 days probably will have time to visit half tour sites as you mentioned, I guess, maybe I'm wrong.

Beautiful county. Dont miss a trip to Kandy and Nouralia make sure that you go there by train. The breath taking views will mesmerize you.

Yes yes, there will be a train tour on my schedule, thanks!

No worries, Few safety tips.. Though scammers and touts are less than some other tourist destinations around the world just be aware of..

Tuk Tuk Drivers - It's mandatory for them to have a fare meter by law, So always get in to one with a meter, Make sure it's running, Never agree to go with them to their relatives Gem shop to get bargains, If your looking to go sightseeing get a Tuk Tuk affiliated to the tourism board, Ask for advise how to hire from the Hotel reception or use a online app to book one or simply hail one down there's enough and more on the roads

Tout's - Mostly in and around hotels and tourist attractions, A firm NO will make them go away

Road safety - It's a mad house out there but not as bad as other parts of the Sub Continent, Just be aware of your surroundings especially with regards to psycho private buses when crossing the road etc

Other than these nothing much else to worry about petty crime and theft are rare in Sri Lanka regards to foreign tourists
