A four-year-old girl was killed by sorcerers and offered a blood sacrifice for finding a lost mobile phone in the northeastern Indian state of Assam, local reports have said.

The girl belonging to tribal community was beheaded and her hands severed by the practitioners of black magic. Local police said two people have been arrested in the case.

The missing girl's mutilated body was found from bushes near her home in Ratanpur tea estate in Charaideo district of upper Assam, police said.

The police version of the incident says a man named Hanuman Bhumij approached the village tantric after his daughter's mobile phone was lost. The sorcerer allegedly killed the girl in blood sacrifice, which he believed would help retrieve the phone.

"Bhumij had approached the witch doctor to recover the mobile phone. We are investigating allegations that the girl was abducted and sacrificed with the hope of recovering the phone," the local station officer told thee Hindustan Times.

Superstitions claim many lives in India's remote villages. Earlier this week there were reports from Assam that two women were lynched by mobs after being accused of witchcraft and sorcery.

In the incident reported from the central Assam district of Nagaon, two men killed the women after accusing them of defiling the village well with their alleged evil powers.

In this case as well, the victims are from the tribal community, locally known as Adivasis.

"We drink water from a village well. But by practising black magic, they (Sagu and Salmi) filled it up with insects. As a result, we always used to fall sick. So, we caught them last (Monday) night and buried them alive by pushing them into the well and filling it up with mud and earth," one of the men arrested for the murder told the police, the Indian Express newspaper reported.

Rights activists say extrajudicial killings are widely carried out by village chieftains in the tribal belt of the state. Official records say as many as 132 people were killed in witch-hunting in Assam between 2002 and 2012.

The Indian police are investigating the death of a 55-year-old man beheaded in what is thought to be a ritual sacrifice intended to conjure up a better harvest.

The headless corpse of Thepa Kharia was found in his house in a remote village in the state of Jharkhand, eastern India.

Kharia's brother told police that a group of occultists, known as Orkas, decapitated the man after breaking in his house in order to carry out a sacrifice calling for more rain and better crop yields.

The Hindustan Times quoted Khana's brother as saying: "Orkas can be anyone, from farmers to tantriks. They bury the head in the field and expect that the sacrifice will yield good harvest for the community."

Ajay Kumar Thakur, the officer investigating the murder, told news agency AFP: "The family says the occultists killed him for the ritual. His head is still missing."

Human sacrifices widespread in rural areas

Human sacrifices occur in remote villages in India, where belief in occult is widespread.

A few days prior to Kharia's death, the decapitated body of Sanatan Bag, 5, was found in an apparent child sacrifice at a temple in Rangapara village, in the state of Assam. It is believed that the boy was killed by a suspected occultist who was then lynched by angry villagers.

In 2013, toddler Akash Singh was brutally killed by a group of people who believed the sacrifice of the child could give them a better life.

In the same year, a father axed his eight-month-old son to death after claiming that Kali, the "Goddess of time, change, and destruction" asked him to do so.

Rajkumar Chaurasia killed his son in front of a temple he had built in his house in Narain Purva village, Barabanki. When he was arrested, he told police he thought the sacrifice would bring joy to childless couples "who visited the Goddess Kali temple".

In 2011, seven-year-old Lalita Tati was killed by two farmers who sacrificed her in a ritual for better harvest. It is believed that the farmers later wrote a letter to Lalita's father in which they confessed their crime.

The sacrifice is alleged to have been out upon the urging of a man who is said to practice black magic. The police have arrested two of the accused, Hanuman Bhumij and Arif Uddin Ali. The other two, including the alleged sorcerer named Gabbar Singh and Ali’s brother Jalal Uddin, are at large.

New Delhi - A suspected witch-doctor severed the head of a 4-year-old boy in southern India in an alleged case of human sacrifice, news reports said Thursday.

Angry villagers in Andhra Pradesh state's Prakasam district tied the 35-year-old suspect to a tree and set him on fire after the gruesome murder on Wednesday, the Times of India reported.

The report said the suspect had abducted the child and after decapitating him offered his blood to Hindu goddess Kali in the belief that he would attain occult powers and wealth.

After the boy's headless body was found, villagers launched a hunt for the suspect and caught him on the outskirts of the village where they doused him with kerosene and set him on fire.

He was admitted at a hospital where he was being treated for burns.

A sickle that was used in the killing was recovered from suspect's house, police said.

Hinduism in India has a centuries-old tradition of human sacrifices to appease deities, gain prosperity or ward off evil. Rare cases are still reported from regions where superstitions hold sway.

KOLKATA: In yet another twist in the New Town child murder case, police now say that the killing was an occult sacrifice and not a spur-of-the-moment crime as the prime accused — granny Aarti Naskar and aunt Kavita Naskar — had made it out to be.

Police are surprised by how long Aarti and Kavita managed to hold out under relentless interrogation. The murder was committed on Mahalaya, discovered two days later, on October 14, and it was not until October 24 that the duo cracked. They had all along tried to mislead the investigation. Even after confessing on October 17, the 63-year-old granny and Kavita stuck to a cooked-up story to dodge harsher charges for a planned murder, say police. "They are still trying to hoodwink us. You can imagine their resolve," said an investigator.

Macabre as it may sound, little Preeti Naskar was killed just 2km from the New Town IT hub because Aarti and Kavita were told by a tantric that if the child were sacrificed on the "auspicious Mahendra jog" — Amavasya on Mahalaya — they would gain "unheard of wealth" and a long life, say police. Kavita is a graduate and took pride in being the most educated in the family.

On Saturday, in her second 'confession', Aarti told police that she had a dream of Tara Ma a couple of weeks ago and "followed the directions" after consulting a tantric. A week before Mahalaya, Aarti and Kavita hatched the murder plan, said an officer.

A week ago, the duo had claimed that Aarti chopped off Preti's fingers in a fit of rage after the child disrupted her Mahalaya Puja and then Aarti choked her to death. But on Saturday, Kavita admitted that she lured Preeti to the prayer room, said an officer. Around 11am, Aarti brought a knife from the kitchen. "The child was forced to put her left hand on the floor near the prayer room. They stuffed a gag into her mouth and cut off her index and little fingers. When she fell unconscious from the shock and blood loss, the two women asphyxiated her. Kavita stuffed a red cloth, used in pujas, down Preeti's throat to choke her to death," said an officer on Saturday.

The fingers were washed in a bucket in the bathroom and "offered" in an occult ritual. The knife was washed carefully and replaced in the kitchen (it was seized on Saturday). And the body was hidden behind the deities and the fridge. A few hours later, the women joined the rest of the extended family in the search for Preeti and even named their tenant as a suspect to divert attention. In the dead of night, at 1am, they returned to the house, put Preeti's body in a sack and left it in the terrace. The next day, they again joined the search.

Investigators had all along suspected Kavita and Aarti because they were the only ones at home when Preeti went missing. But the motive was unclear. Investigation seemed stuck at a dead end when forensic experts found a few tiny spots of blood on Kavita's saree even after she had washed it. That proved to be clinching evidence, said an officer. Six to seven tantrics have been recalled for another round of questioning to identify who had "advised" Aarati and Kavita about the human sacrifice.

Besides these in India are carried out by tribals , who according to Christian and muslim evangelicals are NOT Hindu.

Hindus from all walk of life practice human sacrifice. Trabal are the dalit hindu,Christian missionary project those dalit tribal as non hindu to covert them easily.But most of the sacrifice are done by regular indian hindu if you read the news.Otherwise, how can you explain the human sacrifice phenomenon going on in cities like Kolkata, Delhi or Bangaluru? Rather than hiding this henious crime under the carpet,you people should undertake educating the hindu masses about it's barbarity.

Boy’s murder near Jalandhar on August 9 was ‘human sacrifice’; man held

As it was being suspected, the murder of a seven-year-old boy at Malko village near here on August 9 was done as part of a witchcraft ritual. This fact has come to fore with the arrest of a man who had killed the child, police said.

On Sunday, police arrested Inderjeet Singh (30) of Rihana Jatta, Kapurthala, for killing Gurpreet Chumbar, whose body with hands and legs tied was found in the almirah of a neighbour.

The accused was nabbed from Basti Jodhewal in Ludhiana. He was working as a mason with the main accused Mangat Ram of Shahkot. The accused has confessed to the crime and told police that victim’s neighbour Mangat Ram had no child even after marrying for the fourth time. Mangat planned ‘human sacrifice’ as part of a witchcraft ritual to have an offspring and promised him Rs 2 lakh for killing the boy.

Under the conspiracy, Mangat and his wife left on a pilgrimage to Chintpurni on August 8 morning, leaving behind Inderjeet.

On August 9, Inderjeet lured Gurpreet to the house by offering him goodies. When he fell asleep, Inderjeet hit Gurpreet’s head with the sharp weapon, strangled him to death and hid the body in an almirah, police said.

The police are still to arrest the main accused Mangat Ram of Shahkot, who is absconding.

The victim’s hands and legs were found tied and mouth stuffed with cloth when his family spotted the body in the almirah during search.

Gurpreet was son of Ashok Kumar, a labourer, and studied in Class 3 at a government school.

The scene at the crime spot suggested some witchcraft rituals in the house. Among the things recovered from near the almirah where Gurpreet’s body was found were two lemons, chicken liver, liquor bottles, green chillis, flowers, bricks and pictures of several children.

Further investigations are on.

A major case of human sacrifice has come to the fore in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu.

Police have unearthed skeletal remains wrapped in a rotten bag from a spot near Melur. Authorities believe it could be of a man allegedly sacrificed by the owners of a granite company in the region. Forensic reports are being conducted to ascertain the true identity of the body.

People claim that a villager, who had died around 5 years ago, was also buried at the same spot. The digging started on Sunday morning after allegations of human sacrifice were made.

The allegation follows a petition to the authorities by a former driver of the granite company owner. A petition was submitted to IAS Officer Sagayam by a former driver with PRP granites who alleged that the granite baron had sacrificed 12 mentally challenged people including a woman. Sagayam who was appointed as legal commissioner to investigate the granite scam started his investigations of irregularities in mining in Madurai last December decided to probe into this matter.

"Enraged villagers caught hold of Rao and set him on fire. He was taken to Kandukur hospital with burns to 40 percent of his body.

"Villagers said Rao performed black magic and believed he would attain divine powers and wealth by human sacrifice."

A 50-year-old Indian woman has been killed in a human sacrifice ritual by six people, including a tantrik, in Nalasopara, a suburb of India's commercial capital, Mumbai.

All six men have been arrested a day after the western Indian state assembly of Maharashtra passed an anti-superstition bill.

The woman, who was killed as a sacrifice, was identified as Kalavati Gupta when her son recognised her headless body in photographs.

According to The Times of India (TOI), Kalavati regularly visited Sarvajeet Kahar, who works as a technician in Air India's transport department and practised black magic at home. She was seeing Kahar for a cure for her 30-year-old paralysed son.

Kalavati's neighbour Ramdhani Yadav (33) and his brother Gulab (28), were also visiting the tantrik and were advised by him to perform a human sacrifice for health, wealth and prosperity.

The police said that the tantrik first asked for an animal sacrifice but later stressed on a human one.

"He (Kahar), however, emphasised that human sacrifice was supreme. That is when the Yadav brothers thought of sacrificing Kalavati," Thane's rural additional superintendent of police Sangramsinh Nishandar told TOI.

Gulab and Yadav, who is an auto-rickshaw owner, also included an auto driver, Shyamsunder Gupta (42), in their plan for killing Kalavati.

They lured her to a prayer session and took her to a secluded area in Nalasopara in the night. There, the trio were accompanied by the tantrik, his son Pankaj (22) and cousin Satyanarayan Gaud (48).

According to the police, auto driver Gupta first slashed Kalavati with a knife when she bent down for worship; the others followed to help him behead her.

Kahar has admitted to his crime and revealed that he has carried out another human sacrifice in the past. He also said that his father too practised black magic.

All the accused have been taken in custody for murder, destroying evidence and also booked under the sections of the anti-superstition bill.
