Human rights violations in held Kashmir not internal Indian matter: OIC

ISLAMABAD: Human rights violations in India-held Kashmir are not an internal matter of the Indian state, said Iyad Amin Madani, secretary-general of the 57-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The head of the world's largest bloc of Muslim countries has expressed concern over human rights violations in India-held Kashmir, which has seen weeks of deadly clashes between Muslim protesters and police.

Madani told a joint news conference along with Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz that the situation in Kashmir was deteriorating and urged the international community to act, saying the situation should be resolved at the political level.

"The international community should raise its voice against the atrocities in India-held Kashmir.

“Unfortunately, very few voices have come out against Indian tyranny,” said Madani.

“The situation in Kashmir is heading towards a referendum. No one should be afraid of a referendum and the solution should be through the United Nations resolutions in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The human rights violations in India-held Kashmir are not internal matter of the Indian state.”

The secretary general said the OIC is eager that the Kashmir issue is resolved and fully supports Pakistan. “The OIC has a dedicated special advisor on Kashmir and a liaison group that will meet at the UN General Assembly session in the United States.”

“Just statements alone are not enough when it comes to occupied Kashmir but the issue cannot be raised at the political level with silence.”

The secretary general said he hopes the next session of the OIC will be held in Pakistan. “Pakistan has hosted many historical sessions of the OIC in the past.”

The Advisor on Foreign Affairs welcomed Madani’s remarks, saying the two had spoken at length on the Kashmir issue.

Aziz stressed that Pakistan and India should resolve the Kashmir issue through dialogue. “We want dialogue with India, but we are waiting on India’s response, after which the situation will become clearer.”

The foreign affairs advisor urged the international community and the UN take notice of the human rights violations in Kashmir.

Pakistan has again offered Indian for talks and invited Indian officials to visit Islamabad by the end of August in order to address the crisis and alleviate the sufferings of the people of Indian occupied J&K. However, the same bigotry makes the basis of Indian government response as in the past. Indians are willing to discuss only 'cross border terrorism' with Pakistani officials. Insisting on cross border terrorism, in fact, is an old Indian bogey aimed at misleading the international community and buying more time to suppress the freedom movement in the disputed state. That bigotry is not going to work this time. As a matter of fact, there is no cross border terrorism. It is the people of the divided state who have all the right to travel across their own state. The illegal Indian occupation in continued violation of UN resolutions cannot deprive the people of J&K of their inherent right to move in their own land. Indian forces have killed scores of innocent people in the Indian occupied J&K and at the bloody line of control (LoC). Insisting on illegal Indian occupation and unabated killing of innocent civilians is the core of the problem. The LoC itself is a product of illegal Indian occupation and restricted/blocked movement of the people of J&K across that LoC (which mischievous Indians call cross border terrorism) is again the result of illegal Indian occupation. By using live munitions and pallet guns (which are used for hunting and targeting animals) against innocent people, Indians are committing grave war crimes against humanity. Isn't a disgrace for humanity that occupying Indian forces have fired more than 1.5 million pallet bullets against unarmed civilian protesters just in one month? The brutal state terrorism against the innocent people who are refusing to accept illegal Indian occupation is a disgrace for civilized world too.

This is the time that Ban Ki-moon, Obama, Theresa May, Angela Merkel, François Hollande, Vladimir Putin, and other leaders of free world come out of their slumber, shed their hypocrisy, and play their role in ending the illegal Indian occupation of J&K. How many more dead bodies these leaders need before they will be willing to speak out publicly against the brutal state terrorism perpetuated by Indian forces against innocent civilian population in occupied state of J&K. How many more children they want get orphaned, women widowed, and parents sacrificing their children against the brutal Indian occupation. It is the time that sick-minded Hindu fanatics of Modi government be forced to have a touch with sanity and allow the people of occupied J&K chose their own future course as promised to them at the UN by the world community.

At the moment it is just statements with one advantage that kashmir issue is being internationalised

As Pakistan grows in strength and economy then we can use our stronger position to harm india

Been hearing this from OIC for nearly two decades, its time people started thinking rationally. As long as India has the Economic,military and diplomatic muscle other than a few sqeaks, nothing tangible can be/will be done in Kashmir. Like it or not, the Kashmir terrorism is in its end times...
