Huge reserves of hydrocarbons located in Makran, says PN chief (DAWN)

Has PN chief got a job in OGDCL?
well fauji is honest and not corrupt (pun intended) so to make sure Pakistan and not dha (again pun intended) benifibe from this discovery you need a bhadur jarnail tp control things! thats how it works in Pakistan!

fauji dha $$$$

Actually Pakistan gained 50k of sea territory few years ago. This is unexplored.

drilling and actually discoverying reserves is different sir! we have not yet drilled a hole and claiming to have discovered what 100 billion barrels of oil that sound stupid and supa and i am sure you are well aware there is only one supa in the whole world and that supa is delusional fk! and we are acting like that!

The interim foreign minister said in Dunya news Nuqte e Nazar program that Exxon made an educated guess by studying topography and satellite imagery of the area and they are hopeful of discovering huge reserves of hydrocarbon's in this area.
I hope this all turns out to be true but lets wait and see what happen's.

DAWN is legit, there is something going on there. But what is huge by Pakistan standard is anyone guess. Just keep expectations low.

As per Pakistan’s standards, 10000 barrels per day is huge.

You do realise there are plenty ways of detecting oil without drilling for it?

KARACHI: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mehmood Abbasi said on Wednesday that huge reserves of hydrocarbon resources were expected to be explored soon and could be a “game changer” for Pakistan’s economy.

The naval chief, speaking to businessmen and industrialists during his visit to the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, further said that there should be no doubts on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s benefits for the country.

He said huge reserves of hydrocarbons had been located in the Makran region and Chinese experts would soon initiate exploration in the sea.

He deplored that a massive campaign was going on against CPEC but the nation had understood that the project would prove to be a game changer for our future economic strength and added that there should be no doubts about CPEC benefits.

The naval chief said that to give a strong push to maritime economy, business and industry had a great role to play. He said that there was a great need to have academic research on maritime economy and hydrocarbons for which Bahria University would be tasked.

Similarly, Admiral Abbasi said that there was a great need to have a technology park, which would be set up in Karachi in the near future. In order to upgrade ship-breaking industry private sector would have to play a role in introducing latest know-how so that new opportunities opened up in that sector.

The naval chief said that propaganda was going on to malign Pakistan’s armed forces but relationship between the forces and the people of Pakistan were strong and it was appreciable that democratic process was strengthening in the country.

I have been saying this over and over and over again on this website...

You do not claim to have reserves or hydrocarbons based solely on Geological evidence.

You need to drill wells! That is the only way that is confirmed. Pakistan has hit dry wells every time they have drilled offshore so far.

So please stop this BS!

You don't use satellite and topography to estimate anything about oil and gas reserves!!!

No there aren't!

Yes they do, to have a rough idea of where they might have the highest probability to find oil or gas and then they do geological survey on ground. Then comes the final stage of drilling to confirm presence of hydrocarbons.
You can't just go about drilling here and there.

Grow up

I think i am pretty grown up.

Sonars only provide you with establishing contour maps, identifing possible geological trapping mechanism. The "sniffing" oil your article talks about is highly unreliable and can easily be confused with underground saline aquifers.... Which are a lot more common than hydrocarbon pools!

It's only when you have drilled the well maybe obtained a core, done your open hole logging, and flowed the well can you estimate that you have reserves with economical viability.

You will then couple both the reservoir and geological data to come up with pool boundaries and net pay maps.

Hope you learnt something beyond your googling.

It is actually a legal liability (criminal) to claim "reserves" based on sonars.

Read what I wrote .. I'm talking about booking reserves not estimating optimal drilling locations.

Definitely not the highest probability of finding hydrocarbons. But possible trapping mechanism. You need a source rock, trapping mechanism, and a geolocally established cap rock... Reserves are only established and indentified by drilling.

There are good chances of finding hydrocarbons in those basins... But we cannot quantify those by reserve estimations.

That's why I said before as well that I hope it turns out to be true and lets wait and see what happens before celebrating.

Yes... Because by using the word "reserves" as we see in the media and by different ministers... We should realize..
Reserves = $$$ while
Sonars/geological estimations != $$$ ... (not equal to)

Now you are talking about the obtainability of the reserves, which is a different subject. Proving that reserves exist is done entirely by probing using a number of methods. Nobody randomly drills 5km into the ground to prove the existence of reserves.
