Huawei donates network gears to Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology

Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited has donated some network equipments and offered its technical assistance to Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) for the development of its data communication network lab and upgrade existing backbone network system. Huawei recognised this initiative as a part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Huawei formally announced the contribution at an event on December 27, 2007 at a local hotel. At the occasion Sheikh Md Wahiduzzaman, secretary, Ministry of Science and ICT acknowledged this support and underscored the necessity of industry academia alliance to produce global standard manpower.

Dr AMM Safiullah, vice-chancellor, BUET expressed his gratitude to Huawei for its involvement in capacity building of the university. He also stated his desire to get more cooperation from Huawei in future endeavours.

It should me mentioned that Huawei has already awarded two scholarships titled 'Huawei Scholarship' to the students of level-3 of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), BUET based on their outstanding performance.

Associated Press of Pakistan - Pak Army doctors treat 37,000 patients in Bangladesh

Pakistan Army Field Hospital which was deployed at Bhandaria, Barisal, Bangladesh for relief operations after Cyclone “Sidr” worked day and night to mitigate the suffering of the flood affected people earning goodwill for Pakistan.

The PAF C-130 aircraft carrying the Field Hospital, doctors, paramedics and life saving drugs was the first one to land at Dhaka and the hospital was established at one of the worst affected areas where it served for over three weeks, said an ISPR press release issued here today.

The Field Hospital, staffed by 11 specialists, 5 lady doctors, 6 general duty doctors and 37 paramedics was established in Bhandaria, the district where cyclone “Sidr” played havoc.

Mobile Medical Teams were formed which treated patients at their doorstep. The 30 bed hospital, established at Bhandaria College was self sufficient and had the capability to treat over 800 outdoor patients and conduct 25 surgeries in a day.

It consisted of an operation theater, X-ray unit, ultrasound, field laboratory, dental unit, orthopedic unit and a medical store. Pakistan Army doctors and paramedics treated more than 37,000 patients and conducted 30 major and 400 minor operations during their stay in Bangladesh.

Members of Pakistan Army Field Hospital called on General Moeen U Ahmed, Chief of Army Staff Bangladesh Army and Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury, PSO Armed Forces Division in Dhaka. General Moeen U Ahmed appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Army Field Hospital.

Advisor for Communications and Major General Rafiqullslam, General Officer Commanding Jesore visited the Field Hospital in Bhandaria and highly appreciated the gesture of Pakistan Government for deploying a Field Hospital to treat the victims of the cyclone.

The visiting dignitaries lauded the untiring efforts of Pakistani doctors and paramedics who worked tirelessly to provide treatment to the needy.

It is worth mentioning here that the Government of Bangladesh has highly appreciated the efforts rendered by Pakistan Army doctors and paramedics and thanked the Government of Pakistan for providing assistance in crucial times. Before the return of the Pakistani Contingent to Pakistan, a farewell ceremony was organized by Bangladesh Armed Forces Division (AFD) in the honour of Pakistani doctors and paramedics in which relief assistance provided by Pakistan was highly appreciated with slogans of “Long live the friendly bondage between the Armed Forces of the two countries” and “Long Live Pakistan-Bangladesh Friendship.” Defence Attache of Pakistan presented over 8 tons of medicines worth 4 million Taka to Director Medical Services Bangladesh Army
